This is the nicest hotel in Mobile - hands down. The rooms are new (the hotel is very new), nice, clean and pretty big. It is also one of the few places you can escape the stench of smoke in Mobile. The beds are very comfortable and loaded with fluffy, white pillows and a white cloud-like duvet. The lobby is nice too - and has a pretty good bar for a quick drink. I stay here every time I go to Mobile now. They are working on their fitness center. In the interim, they offer free passes to the ymca down the street. It is okay, but suspect it will be much nicer to have a newer fitness center on-site.

A few things to watch out for, though: the rooms in the tower are pretty and some have good views, but unless you are into being woken up every few hours by the train (I am not), bring ear plugs or a noise machine. And maybe some serious eye cream to cover the dark circles. Unfortunately the fans in the bathroom are not loud enough to mask the noise and the rooms are not equipped with white noise machines or small fans. (That would be a worthy investment for the hotel.) Also - give the room service folks lots of time to deliver your order. The first time I tried it, I had to call to cancel after it had not arrived in the time they promised. The next time, the order was not entirely accurate - but I did not have time to call to request a revision.

That said - still the best option in the immediate Mobile area - and I will continue to stay there.

“Wonderful first night of honeymoon”

The Battle House - A Renaissance Hotel

My husband and I stayed here for the first night of our honeymoon after marrying in Mobile and before leaving for Canada. The room was wonderful, spacious, with a small, shared balcony which had a view of the water. The bathroom was enormous with a oversized, jetted tub and separate shower. We got the romance package, which included a chilled bottle of champagne and chocolate covered strawberries waiting in our room when we returned from our reception at midnight! The hotel allowed us to take our wedding pictures there in the lobby, the Crystal Ballroom and some other common areas before the wedding and after as well. The romance package also included the breakfast buffet for two with gratuity in the Trellis Room, with excellent service! The package also allowed us a late check-out time of 1:00 PM. As it was our wedding day, the hotel also allowed us to check in early so that I could get ready in our room before the wedding. The service we received from everyone was exceptional. They really seem to go out of their way to meet the needs of their guests. They even brought me toothpaste after I checked in since I forgot mine! The bed was to die for and the bathrobes provided were soft and comfy. Overall it was the best experience we could have wished for on our first night as married couple.

“Five Star Hotel”

I just returned from a business trip to Mobile and stayed at the Battle House Hotel. I was extremely impressed with the hotel and would give it a Five Star Rating. The hotel is divided into two separate buildings. There is the older 1850s hotel building, which is connected to a brand new office tower next door. The hotel has taken over several floors of the office building to use for guest rooms and other facilities. I have to admit that when I first checked in, I was concerned because they booked me into the original part of the hotel. However, when I got to the room, my concerns were allayed. The original building was completely renovated and re-opened several months ago. It looks like a completely new hotel. My room was very spacious and the bathroom was large, containing both a bathtub and a separate shower. The bed was very comfortable. The part I was most impressed with, and the point that lifts the facility above four stars (in my mind), is that they have 24 hour room service. Aside from stays at Four Seasons hotels, I have not been at a hotel in many years that offers 24 hour room service. The hotel staff was very nice and accomodating. I ate at the bar downstairs and ordered a pizza, which was absurdely large--and was good. My only gripe is with the prices at their formal restaraunt downstairs. I was interested in ordering a steak, but the $ 52.00 price for a steak seemed way out of bounds. So, I ate at the bar instead. I would urge the hotel to rethink their menu somewhat. However, other people who stayed at the complimented the restaurant's breakfast in the morning, one I did not have time to partake in. All in all, I would give the hotel a five star rating.

“A lovely hotel”

The Battle House - A Renaissance Hotel

My wife and I stayed at this hotel on our way to New Orleans, and found it to be lovely. The staff were all friendly, and the concierge assisted us with finding a local museum we were looking to see.

Our room (in the main building, not the tower) was small, but in pristine condition. The bed was very comfortable, and the bathroom had a separate shower and tub. As a tall guy, I was pleased to find that the tub was big enough for me to fit in and take a nice, long bath.

Note that parking costs extra during the week, but is free on weekends.

There's no pool at this hotel, which I found to be disappointing. However, as a guest there, you get free entry to the YMCA pool a block or so away.

Be sure to take the time to tour the hotel and check out the old memorabilia and ballroom. For breakfast, visit the hotel restaurant--you won't be disappointed.

“Battlehouse is nice.”

We stayed in the RSA tower as opposed to the historical part of the hotel. It was a very nice room and bath. We had a nice view of the bay. Staff was very good. We did not report that the phone on the nightstand did not work. The phone on the desk did work but our wake up call did not ring. Parking is either valet or on the street which is not very friendly. So add $16 to your room per night plus tips. I think there is a parking garage assessible at the 3rd floor of the tower that would be more convenient than waiting on the valet to run down the street a couple of blocks to get your vehicle. We had a good experience with all of the staff. We skipped the very nice buffet breakfast at the hotel and went down the street one block to a local diner. The food was great with generous portions and really cheap but its only open M-F.
