Easily located, Papageorge's Supper Club is a wonderful place to dine, chat, rest, and if you get there at the right time, sing, dance, and hear the pianist.
Located on Government Boulevard, east of 1-65, it is between Wilson Dismukes and the Taylor Motel, less than a 5 minute drive after you exit the interstate.
The building is neither new nor fancy, which some folks might find discouraging. Those who turn away will miss out on a gentle atmosphere, you're-my-neighbor service, and cuisine prepared by a man who has been with Papa George for over 50 years.
Papageorge's was cozy and comfortable, and our conversation flowed easily, which isn't always the case when we are in restaurants that are large and noisy.
I had the Greek hamburger, my husband had the Gyro, and we shared an apppetizer of crab claws. Everything was good, but the crab claws were the largest we'd ever had, and lightly battered.
If Rosie has a minute, she'll be happy to tell you about Papa George, and famous people who have entertained in his establishment, and famous people who have been turned away.
We live in Mobile, and have eaten out nearly once a week for over 15 years. Our time at Papageorge's was one of our favorites.
