On Friday, July 26, 2002, my husband and I decided
to spend a couple of nights at Shoney's Inn in Moile, Al. on Beltline Hwy. So we pullled up to the hotel and registered to stay for 2 nights.
The hotel clerk gave us room 116 on the first floor. On Saturday, July 27, that morning the manager called our room and asked my husband to come to the office, he did. She told him that the clerk put 2 nights on the ticket but she didn't know whether he paid for 2 nights, my husband said
the total was $89.60 for 2 nights with a $39.00 coupon. The manager who's name is Mehta said ok and don't worry about it. So we proceeded to go to a relative's funeral as planned, later that evening we went back to the hotel and another clerk was at the front desk. My husband asked the clerk was everything o.k. The clerk asked my husband for his I.D. and he gave the I.D. to the clerk and the clerk looked in the computer and my
husband, yes you have the room for 2 nights, he gave my husband I.D. back and scanned room 116 key which didn't work so the clerk gave my husband room 115 key, which he scanned and it worked for room 116. We proceeded to the room where we slept all night. On Sunday, July 28, 2002, the phone ringed and I answered the phone, the person asked
for my husband, I gave him the telephone and the person asked him to come to office, he did. The manager (Mehta) told him that he only paid for 1 night, my husband told her he paid for 2 nights.
He came back to the room and asked me to start packing because they were trying to get-over on him, about the room. He said we're going to wait up front until the police arrives. We went up front and asked the manager did she call the police? they did'nt respond so my husband reached
into the truck and got the cell phone and called the police. They arrived and my husband told them his story outside the office, the police officers went inside the office and heard their story. The two police officers came back outside as we were talking about the incident a white female approached the officers and said I want to complain they just charged me $59.00!!! and I wasn't suppose to pay but $39.99!! the officer said we can't help you ma'm. The officer asked the manager while did we get the key to room 115 instead of 116 on the second day? They didn't reply. In closing, the mistake was made with the employee trying to scam another customer, the officers asked were there anything that they had to say to us or are they going to sue us? They replied, No. The moral of this story is the employess are not communicating with each other and the establishment does not give receipts for your visit before or after you stay with them, unless you paid with an credit card. The oficer warned them that should start giving all of their customers receipts with each stay.
