“Not coming back here again...”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed June 7, 2011

It is surprising to know that the maintenance of the place looks good on the surface but the rooms have lots of bedbugs! it is not the cheapest place also, despite all the hype.It can be very noisy at night due to the traffic and the coffeeshops by the roadside...pretty disappointing...definitely not recommended in the long-run.
We were lucky that there are many places to stay here so we moved after 2 nights.

Hi there guys
This place is very clean & tidy, very quite and peacefull to stay.
Strongly recommended to any backpackers/travelling person. No ordinary place the satff are also friendly and kind, just like the owner Mr. Johan.
You can cook your own food here also in small kitchen, just for that special food you like.

Once again dont miss out great place to stay, very affordable.

Convinently located and nicely decorated (decorated with boutiques). Thoroghly enjoyed our stay during the CNY holidays.

We were surprised that a good place to stay like Johan Hotel charges reasonably. And the location is convenient to big shopping centres, where you can shop and eat. Have recommended this hotel to friends and relatives. Keep up the good work Johan Hotel!

Stayed here for 4 nights in a double room. The room was 32RN a night. It was clean and spacious and had a very high ceiling. There was a small fan and glass shutters to one wall. The bed was old and creaked alot which then echoed as the room was empty.

The shared shower/bath were ok, hot showers were available. Free wifi but you had to be in the lower cafe area to access it.

There was a laundry facility which cost 6RN per basket, but was only washed. Drying was upto you. But there were facilities to hang your clothes out.

Staff were friendly and were helpful when asked. There was a nice common area to sit and read and listen to music.

The location was ok, about 15 mins walk from China town but close enough to the air conditioned malls and restaurants.

We had reserved a room here and it was waiting for us, clean and cool when we arrived. The bathroom was very clean, there was a common area for movie watching and internet. The coolest part was the rooftop terrace. However, when we went to bed, we found tiny bed bugs crawling on us all night and it was very noisy too, so needless to say, we changed rooms the next night to the Heeren Inn...more expensive but worth it!

My husband and I stayed here with our 7-year-old daughter in August of 2007. It doesn't look like much from the outside but inside it's incredibly clean and very well-run. We stayed for 3 nights in an air-conditioned double with extra mattress for our daughter and paid the equivalent of $18 CDN. Breakfast was not included but the on-site cafe was inexpensive and there were several other places within easy walking distance. There was also a mall just across the street with a huge grocery store on the lower level. We were also within easy walking distance of all attractions. We were travelling for a year and stayed here near the beginning of our trip. It still /easily/ rates as one of our most positive hostel experiences of the entire trip. Definitely recommend!

  • Liked — Property was extremely clean and the layout was very cool
  • Disliked — Trying to find it after we got off the local bus
