“Great location, gorgeous building, decent rooms and a jacuzzi on the room!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 9, 2010

The location of this hotel is perfect, just by the historic dutch part of Melaka (an amazing town BTW and a must-visit in my opinion.)

Everything's in walking distance ... the building is a historic colonial building and it's got an open air jacuzzi on the room .. with great views over the old town and chinese quarter.

The room was clean and modern, cool and had a TV and DVD player with DVDs that you could rent. It was very good by Malaysian standards .. not too much character inside (compared the the outside which had bucket loads) .. and that's the only complaint I could level at it.

The rate we paid was good and the bar / restaurant at the bottom of the building did very nice breakfast.

Nice hotel to base your stay in Melaka from.

If you want character, Hotel Puri edges it .. but if you want a bit of western comfort then stay here.

Melaka is a fantastic lace to visit .. so much history and so laid back compared to KL, for example. Good food, very chilled. Go to the museum in the boat (don't remember the name) .. it's just to the left of Hotel Aldy .. to see about the history of the place, including the amazing "animal proto-money" they had here. Fascinating stuff!

Just recently stayed in aldy hotel since all of the hotels in malacca was fully booked. The booking was easy through phone calls. But, there were a lot of disadvantages staying in this hotel. They should have a lot of improvements since what i have seen in the website, they have received several awards for their achievements. These are my overall comments for this hotel:

Location: strategic place since it is located at the center of the main attraction in malacca. It is near to the stadhuys building, museums, shopping malls, jonker street and etc. It is just a walking distance.

Room: We booked for family room of 5 and the room was huge. However, our room is just one level from the restaurant and in front of road where you can hear the loud noise from the trishaw and car passing up till midnight. Every night, there's a band performance in the restaurant and we could hear it in our room. If u want a nice and quite environment, this hotel is not recommended.

Breakfast: We really dissappointed with the menu. We thought there's a buffet awaiting for us. unfortunately, we have to order a set of breakfast. And the set was in small amount. I have ordered rice porridge, and the porridge was not up to my standard where it is just a rice with a plain water. We can't make our own choice compared to a buffet style.

Cleaniless: It quite clean when we enter the room.

Staff : They are not friendly during check in and check out time. Even when we bumped into each other, they didnt smile either. And one of the staff did not wear a uniform. They wore a very tight shirt and short until you can see her belly button. I think it is not an appropriate outfit if you want to greet your customer.

Car parking: It was limited and crowded especially during the weekends.

> we rented a quad room with 2 double beds, cost around MYR 360 during normal weekend
> room was clean, so as the washroom
> kids enjoyed viewing the trishaws as our room was facing the road
> the breakfast was ok
> the tourist spots are just nearby and all are within walking distance
> the bad thing was our room was just right up the hotel restaurant entrance. I was quite distracted with their roller gate sound
> there was singing at night til midnight

Well, what can I say about Aldy? Yes it used to be good, but over time the carpet looks weary and tired. But you know something? The only thing that remains in my Mind is the old Lift. They havent CHANGED the carpeting in the for 3 years now!

I have to admit, even though its getting old, its the best 3 start hotel to stay within all the historical sights in Malacca. The management has changed, I don't see the pretty lady and that burly Indian man anymore.

Ok, the rooms. Now, DO NOT get the rooms on the 1st Floor facing the Stadhuys unless you are coming back to the room after 12 am. It gets noisy because of the racket they call music downstairs in the Bamboo restaurant. I always get the room with the bathtubs on the 2nd floor but this time I was a bit tight on budget so I took the room on the first floor. Was noisy but I slept thru it all.

The rooms on the 1st floor have shower stalls but the ones on the 2nd and 3rd floors have tubs.

Food is overpriced. It used to be good 2 years back but like I said with a different management, even the menu looks sad. They stopped making vegetarian lasagna but added vegetarian risotto in the menu. DO NOT MISS the breakfast as you get to order whatever you like for free. Plus if you can't finish it you can ask them to send it to your room. Food is overpriced so best to share the tab. My lunch of risotto and pizza cost RM 70++

The Rooftop restaurant is closed for 2 weeks (Im guessing they want t cut cost) but the jacuzzi is open till 7PM. DONT MISS THE JACUZZI!! It is abit old looking but the view from the rooftop makes it all worth it. Im going to upload all the pcitures I took when I was up there tanning myself. It was soo goddamn hot (I went at 11 AM) but the wind was soo strong I was shivering a bit!

Rooms
Don't take any on the 1st Floor unles you are on a tight budget. a Standard Room rate used to be RM 130++ but now its RM 160++

TV
Cable TV, so you get cartoon, news and sports

Rooftop Jacuzzi

You get a bird's eye view of Malacca, the famous Malacca river, Jonker Street, and the Straits of Malacca

Next time around I will stay in the Aldy Chinatown (in Chinatown, Malacca). Its new, so expect better service and cleaner rooms.

Spent some time there during the school holidays, and as before booked thought the webiste, stating for a family suite, that consists of a king size bed and two beds for kids.

As remembered, the parking lots were scarce, even more so, with the adjacent building currently under renovation to be a new museum, henceforth, cars that used to be parked there, no lomger do so.

The entrance to the lobby at the second floor remains at the back of the hotel, with the PUB/restuurant occuoying thr ground floor.

Lobby remains unchanged, with the infrequent stains here and there, clean nonetheless.

Room however, was NOT CLEAN. Bathroom was slightly dirtied. And many things in the room was starting to fall apart. The family did not enjoy the stay at all.

Breakfast, is of course, adequate, but never nice.

Will give this place a miss the next time round.

This hotel is ideally situated within walking distance of the centre of Malaka. Unfortunately it is extremely noisy at night. I was looking forward to the entertainment on the roof of the hotel which was advertised on the site, but when I got there I was told that this actually takes place only one day a week and I had missed it. In Malaka there are lot of these cyclist wanting to take you around, but unfortunately each one had a 300W speaker strapped to his bike and they congregated outside the Aldy. Beware of the two so called Buddhist monks who hover around the hotel. This two are quite sinister and determined to take your money. They thrust a trinket in you hand and say it is free. If you take it they then want your money and not just a small amount. I gave them 10 ringgit and they laughed and pointed to this peice of paper and said they wanted 100 ringgit! I walked away, but they caught up with me a few days later at which point my Malaysian friend told them 'what for' in their local tongue. They then left quickly. At the side of the Aldy was a huge screen on which every night they showed football matches which attracted the locals, but the cheering and noise every night made it difficult to sleep.

Very central location, just 1 min walking from main attraction!
Melaka is a very nice and small town, so everything is reacheable by walking!
The hotel is basic but ok for a short stay. Ok breakfast, you can choose among different sets. Service is ok. Don't expect 5stars hotel, but for short stay is perfect!
