Stayed at shah's for 3 days, and my 2nd time here. It's a refreshing change from the usual high-rise hotel buildings. If you like chalet - style, this is the place for u. However, like most of the Malaysian hotels, this place needs some maintenance and house-keeping. Our rooms (4 rooms) are dusty, and some pipes are leaking. Some fixtures (e.g. lights, remote controls) are not working too. However, their service is prompt and all you need is to call the reception and ask them to fix the problem.
Rooms are of standard size. They can add in a bed (or you shld call it 'mattresses' on the floor for RM $20). I do find the room a little dark but if you leave the wooden blinds/windows open, it's quite ok.
This chalet-style hotel is near the sea (not really considered a beach). If u drive here, you can park your car right outside, at the doorstep of your chalet! There's a swimming pool and restaurant. Not much of facilities .. but I think it's enough for people who just want to relax, or kids who enjoy swimming. If you're there without a car and can't do without city life (shopping, night life etc), I suggest that you move to Equatorial hotel or Mahkota parade hotel which are nearer to city.
For people who like nature or animals (insects/reptiles), this is the place for you. My friends' room 'invited' 1 monitor lizard, 2 toads and 1 large spider as 'guests'. Some guests at the breakfast buffet told us that they've got a huge monitor lizard too! And not forgetting house lizards, cockroaches and mosquitoes which are common in south-east-asia's tropical climate. Do bring along insecticide for the mozzies.
Though this resort is a little far from the city, you'll get a taste of local life if you drive around the resort. There's marketplace with fresh catches from the sea. You can buy the fish/prawns from the market and have your own BBQ at the resort. Just bring along your disposable BBQ pit. Or you can bring along an ice box and bring your seafood home. There's also local delights like banana fritters, fish cakes, roti john (bread with sardine, Malay style), BBQ chicken, BBQ fish, Mee Goreng (fried noodle, Malay style) etc nearby.
