“Another Chinatown?”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed April 9, 2013 via mobile

The weekend night market gets very busy and the stalls sell the usual cheap products. There are some very good street food stalls especially down some of the side streets. Other side streets are lined with pubs. Some have live music. A good place to see a few sights and then find a table and enjoy a meal and drink while you watch the world go buy. Market is only on weekends

“Watch the traffic and puddles”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 9, 2013

Like all chinatown in South East Asia except more well preserved, you know you are there! Go with an empty stomach, stop and eat at stalls and shops. Portions are pretty small, so you will feel as if you didnt eat!

“Good shopping experience”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 5, 2013

Very good shopping experience and also good to nip into air conditioned shops to escape the heat. Some very nice cotton clothing available and some good antique chinese artifacts as well as handcrafted Malaysian items that were a little bit different from the run of the mill souveniers around Kuala Lumpur.

“If you have been to one China town you have been to them all.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed April 5, 2013

There is a night street market and tons of shops if you want to shop. One night I watched Mr. Ho punch his finger through a coconut. He sells his tonic while performing his act. Overall, it was just like most other China towns and night markets that I have ever been to.

“Unique,exotic and historical”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 2, 2013

Melaka in general, is a "must-see" on any trip to Malaysia. If Kuala Lumpur has the mighty Petronas Towers, and the world-class shopping malls, Melaka has the unique historical blend of Dutch, Portugese and India districts, all in the old quarter. The largest area is Chinatown. It is lit up with small red lights at night, which gives a charm like nowhere else that I've been. It's magical with the many hundreds of red lit lanterns. There's a small river that meanders through town, which is lit up with colorful lights at night. There's something for everyone; Hard Rock Cafe, Chinese Tea houses, Pottery Studios, raw pick meat vendors, antique shops, restos with tables in the alleys etc.
