“A glimpse of the Sultanate's past.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 8, 2013

The fee is cheap and the building was well maintained. Dioramas were made to reflect processions in the palace and the customs involved. The costumes on displayed were detailed and very interesting too. Only drawbacks were the layout of the displays and the lack of descriptions causing some confusion and lack of clarification. Interactive displays should be included in the future upgrading of this palace replica.

“Interesting but not a must see”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed September 3, 2013

I wasn't blown away by this palace but I guess I'm comparing it to other palaces. It is interesting to go to see if you find yourself wandering around Melaka with some spare time on your hands. There is a story about the sultan and his wife as you walk around but there was no signs and no one told us we had to go a certain way so we ended up reading it from the end to start which was annoying. You see some artifacts and the clothes worn by the people at various times in Melaka's history.
So to some up, good but not great.

“Recreated wooden palace provides insight into fifteenth century Melaka Sultanate”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 17, 2013

The Melaka Cultural Museum is contained within the recreated, wooden Sultan's palace, built in traditional style without nails. The Palace is set within formal grounds and represents a tranquil oasis from the narrow and busy streets of Melaka. There is a 2Rm entry fee which gives access not just to the interior of the building, but also to fascinating dioramas of the Sultan's Court and of the different traders from different parts of Asia, showing the importance of the Sultanate of Melaka as a trading centre in the fifteenth century, before the arrival of the Portuguese and the succession of European colonial masters. There are also displays of period clothing, weapons and other items. It is not air conditioned and the second floor in particular is quite hot. however this does not detract from the overall beauty and interest of the Palace and museum.
