Owner description: The Hindu deity Vinoyagar, recognizable by the elephant head, is also known as Ganesg. This temple’s colorful exterior is at odds with its gloomy interior.

“positive energy”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 22, 2013

this is the oldest hindu temple situated in the busy jonker street. although jonker street is super busy and noisy, the minute you enter this temple you immediately feel a positive energy being surrounded. the hindus believe that the elephant god known as lord ganesha is the remover of all obstacles and that is exactly what you feel when you enter this temple.. a strong energy within a old architecture. a must visit in melaka

“Glad I went”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 5, 2013

We went initially to see the temple, ventured inside as it was not "puja" time and took a few good photos. The priest were busy preparing for some special prayers the next day, and allowed us to see some the preparation.

Went back in the evening for "puja" which is held at twice a day, 6 am and 6 pm. We went for the 6pm for obvious reasons. Tourist are welcome to come along to see how a puja is performed. As this is a small temple given its age it isnt crowded and actually makes it possible to view the rituals quite clearly and easily.

Though the temple needs some TLC, given its age and given that there are not a huge number of Hindu's in Malaysia, I think it has done well to sustain itself. I would choose to go here for its simplicity and tranquillity it offers in the midst of tourist Melaka.

“How the Other Half Lives”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 29, 2012

Airy, spacious, calm, clean but with pretty naff displays. Nonetheless, if you like architecture you will be busy trying to figure out how this was built and has endured for so long. Definitely worth seeing.

“Religious place for workship”

i was glad to find Vinaya Temple in Melaka. Devotees can always go there to pray and people who want to know about Hindu religion can visit too.
