“a nice place to stay”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 17, 2014

We stayed here in Feb 2014 and had a lovely time. Melaka is a nice town.

Pros
close to everything
very comfy beds with nice sheets/blankets
clean rooms
very helpful staff
small but nice communal area
good price/value for money

cons
shower right over toilet
only one European toilet and one Asian toilet
thin walls- able to hear other guests easily but there are not many beds so wasn't a big problem
no microwave only toaster and hot water
no wifi while we were there but may have been due to Chinese new year and too much traffic

We stayed there for 1 night and really get impressed by this hotel. The rooms are small but very clean, bed is comfortable. The hotel is really really cozy and we feel like home. They have free breakfast, free Wifi and PC with free access. Its location is quite good, just a few minutes near Jonker Walk & shopping mall. You should take a River Cruise in Jonker Walk, very amazing tour ( 15 MYR). One bad point for this hotel is shared bathroom and the hotel reception is not always available for your request. However you can call them and they have cards for you to open & close doors. I think it is a very awesome budget hotel. If I come back Melaka, I think I will stay there again :).

1. Great Welcoming and helpful Staff (Thanks to Allan)
2. Good Sleeping Quality (Best Bedding)
3. Perfect Centered And Convenient Location. (Nearly Door Steps To Everything)
4. Good Workable WiFi. (Good Speed)
5. Good Price. (Weekdays)

Although not very spacious common area, but for a small homey kinda hostel, it's sufficient. Please restock the beer more in future time...

If you ever come to Melaka, I'll definitely recommend this awesome place. Clean, best price, great facilities and the most important thing, it's very welcoming. This is indeed a great place to recharge your rest and also the best convenient location for city access.

Overall, I can only say "Home Away From Home".

Room Tip: Triple Family Room is the best choice

The travellers hostel was a great place to stay to explore Melaka. We were very lucky to be greeted by Anderson, the owner, at the bus station to take us to the hostel. He was very friendly and helpful, giving us a tour or the city on the way.
The hostel is spotlessly clean and welcoming. We immediately felt at home.
The breakfast included was a great start for the morning!
We defintely recommend The Travellers Hostel as an inviting, affordable and convenient place to stay in Melaka.
Thanks for having us and all the help that you provided us with throughout our stay.

Stayed for two nights in a non-aircon room. It is more of a guesthouse than a hostel so I had a room for myself. Room only had windows to the hallway and was not charming or anything, but I only was there to sleep anyways so I didn't care. Room was clean, sheets looked a little spotty, though.
Bathrooms were sufficient in number (wasn't full when I stayed there, though) and very clean.
The common area is ok, it is not meant to be a hostel where you hang out a lot.
Location is in walking distance to all the touristy places.
WIFI worked well for me.
Staff was very welcoming nice and helpful. They can also organize trips for you, I did not take advantage of that though.
It is potentially noisy there, as walls seem to be only vision but not sound barriers. When I stayed there all the other guests were considerate, so I slept well enough and only was awoken in the morning by everyone's alarm, but if you are a light sleeper or there are lots of loud people around that might be rather unpleasant.

In general I felt very comfortable staying there, so I can recommend this place.

We had the room in the front with the window. It was fairly clean although a bit tight on space. The aircon worked like a charm. The shared bathroom was ok but could have been a little cleaner. The WiFi was spotty; it went down a couple of times and we had to ask the front desk to reboot the router. The hostel is conveniently located as it is a short walk from the riverside area and minutes away from two megamalls. The staff was super nice and very helpful.
