“2nd time not as good as the first time”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed June 8, 2013

Our first visit we were very satisfied. Good location. The second time the toilet stained. the housekeeping staff did not clean properly.
Noisy tourist from China. Shouted on top of their lungs and the hotel could not do anything about these noisy tourist.

The Explorer Hotel is located in a fantastic location. It took us about 20 mins and 20RM to get there by taxi from the Central Bus Station. It's location right opposite the sky tower with a huge green sign you can't miss. On foot, it's about 10 minutes' walk away from the river side and Jonker street. It is also located right next to the megamalls, with easy access to restaurants and fast food. There is a 7-eleven just across the street. Also, on weekend nights, there is a local night market right downstairs.. Not much shopping to be done, but you can definitely get some local snacks to munch on.

The hotel seems pretty new. Our room is fully equipped with TV, air-con, kettle, and most importantly of all, free WIFI. Towels, toothbrush and shampoo are also provided. Breakfast was a buffet of both local "nasi lemak" and accompany dishes, porridge, toast and fruit. It was pretty good. The staff were also very friendly and prompt in their service. Frontdesk helped us a book a nice fancy taxi for our trip back to the bus station and it cost us the same price as the old red taxis.

The only issue I have with this hotel is the thin walls. With the night market downstairs, I could hear the music. And we were also rudely awaken at 6am by a tour group of tourists who were checking out. Not so good for light sleepers who are looking for a restful night after a long journey on the coach!

This is my 2nd time staying this hotel. Chosen The Explorer Hotel is because it located at town area. Famous shopping mall just beside the hotel, 5 - 10 minutes walking distance can arrive Jonker Street. There is free car park for the guest too.

Small tiny room but some rooms are lack of maintenance. Eg, the home shower was leaking, air-con takes long time only can feel the cold air. Wifi unable to connect the whole night.

The room is small but clean with all the usual amenities like hairdryer, electric kettle.
The walk to Jonker Street will take you more than 15 mins, based on a slow stroll. Near to the shopping malls. Nice big carpark. Entry to the carpark not that easily located. We mistook the exit as the entrance.

Check into this hotel on a last minute trip on 17th Feb 2013. We took the executive room for 3pax, room is very small and is clean with all the regular amenities, breakfast needed some improvement. The walk to Jonker Street will take you more than 10mins, depending on your speed, overall, can be pleasant. Lots of eatery around, carpark space not a problem, appreciate the fact that it was brightly light up at nite too. Hope it stays that way in future. Location not a problem. On the pricing for the hotel room, unless the location is what one wants, for the price of the room per nite, there are more choice and for a few extra bucks better hotels nearby. This one is really budget and too basic.

Spend a night in this hotel. It's a great location as it is directly outside the Makota Shopping mall. It's near all the tourist spots. It is especially vibrant over the weekend with all the street walk nearby. Walk 10mins and you will reached Jonker street.

Take bus 17 from Central Bus station and alight right outside the hotel and shopping mall. Visit the bubble tea shop right at the same building, nice owners and not too sweet tea.

Room Tip: If you are a light sleeping, this is not a good place for you. It can be quite nosy over the weekend...

We arrived in Melaka around 10 PM on Saturday night without a booking and surely enough most of the big chain hotels were fully booked. The lady at the front desk of another hotel close to the night market recommended us THe Explorer. We rushed in and have taken the last two rooms. First of all location is great walking distance to everything (night market and Mahkota, close to the river too). Carpark was complimentary and was very conveniently located. The room is new, clean, functional, but very small. The worst part is that the walls in this hotel are so thin that you can hear your neighbours so clearly as if they were in the same room!! We could also hear everyone walking and talking in the corridor! There were a lot of families with little kids staying at the hotel so we couldn't get much sleep as kids were constantly crying and yelling... Breakfast is not so great either.. However can't complain for the price we've paid. Would I stay again? Probably not, but it's a good value hotel in this price range and it's only 7 months old. 3 stars.
