“Old World Charm”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 22, 2014

Greeted at check-in with a cold towel and a glass of iced water. The duty manager gave us a brief on the background of the original house prior to conversion to a hotel. The rooms are nicely decorated with good facilities. We had a room overlooking both the river and the sea. Its location makes it easy to walk to most of the tourist attractions. The staff were both efficient and friendly.

Service is excellent! Greeted and served hot towels and refreshment upon arrival, escorted to room with welcome drinks in the room. Being showed around the hotel and the facilities in the room. Unlimited tit bits which is a plus point. Area is not too bad with a few landmarks around. Price is a little pricey and the sound proof can be better. Overall great.

Efficient check in and service. Room on 5th floor was spacious and spotless. We enjoyed the old and new mix , it worked well. Staff are well trained and professional. Location only 15 minute walk to old centre. Breakfast was a let down , watered down juice and not too appealing buffet . Food cooked to order was adequate. Well worth the stay and we would return

This little hotel is near the river and 10 minutes walk to Jonkers St. It is not a big hotel but the service and the rooms are excellent. The pool is just ordinary - every thing else is close to perfect. We really liked our weekend here!

From the time you check in to the time you check out you encounter friendly well trained staff. The rooms are a good size and tastefully modern but still in keeping with the colonial feel of the lobby and bar.

It is a heritage hotel in Malacca, we stayed here for one night and the overall experience is sweet and enjoyable.

The lobby building is 90 years old, while the rooms tower is 5 years old.

Pros:
1. Staff are helpful and friendly. They all wear traditional clothes which make us feel going back in time.
2. Breakfast is free selection from menu with a buffet session on fruit, cereal and bread. The menu comes with western to traditional malaysian cuisine, they adjust it with good portion so you can order multiple dishes and try out more.
3. The hotel is in walkable distance to the Malacca Heritage Zone (10-15 minutes), a very comfortable walk and experience the town
4. Sheets are very comfortable with high thread count

To be improved:
1. Privacy of bathroom - The bathroom is only partition by shaded wood door, so the sound and the smell of the bathroom can fill up your room. If you are not going as a couple I can imagine it can be embarrassing. There is a toilet at the lobby which you can use.
2. Noise of drainage - You can hear very loud sound of water running whenever your neighbor turn on their tap or shower. I read this comment from other reviews and I would say it is very valid. Lucky the sound ends around 11pm (guess our neighbors all finish shower then). Given the room tower is only 5 years old I expect better sound proof
3. Pool is very small, but given it is a boutique vintage hotel, it should be expected.
4. I pay extra to have 4G wifi in my package, however the wifi is very unstable, and I can only connect it occasionally

I will say the pros outweighs the cons, I will recommend others to stay in this hotel if you visit Malacca.

Room Tip: Ask for a room facing the river, it is beautiful and relaxing view.

Our family of 4 stayed here recently for one night (July 14, 2014). From the start, the staff were very attentive and service could not be faulted. The rooms are very clean, large with very comfortable bed, and yes the bathrooms are amazing with a free-standing bath. They allowed a late checkout till 1pm which was great. We enjoyed dinner in the restaurant, but breakfast was not exceptional. The bar also doesn't have any snacks and the restaurant only opens at 7pm for dinner. The hotel is reasonably small and has a lovely heritage feel to it, and it was nice to stay in a historical place away from the babble of Jonker Street. It is a 15min walk from Jonker St, or you can catch a trishshaw or cab for $10 Ringgat. It is situated right on the river and you can catch the river boat cruise $20 Ringgat pp which runs every half an hour or so. The easiest for us with 2 young kids was to catch a cab to Jonker st and caught a trishaw back. The night market on Sundays in Jonker st is also quite fun.

Room Tip: We got 2 rooms to accomodate 2kids( aged 8 & 11) & 2 adults

We were a group of five staying just one night and occupied two rooms. The bedrooms were beautiful with super king size beds fitted with luxurious bed linen. Each bathroom had a modern shower and a freestanding claw footed bath and a comprehensive set of toiletries was provided. There was a wonderful selection for breakfast and the dining room on the first floor was charming. We pre-booked spa treatments which were excellent and included a complimentary 30 minute head massage. The hotel provided a free guided heritage tour of the city, which lasted in excess of two hours, and gave us a wonderful flavour of Malacca. One of the outstanding features of this hotel is the superb service provided by the delightful staff. Always smiling, helpful and welcoming. A truly excellent hotel and worthy of its five stars.
