Met by the staff, all dressed impeccably with historical elegance, a cool towel & drink accompanied the check in process. Taken to our room (Deluxe) in the newer extension (the original building dates back to the 1920s) we find our room framed by red ribbon to acknowledge my birthday. The four poster bed with its fine linens has also been got at, with Happy Birthday laid out in leaves & orchids. A small birthday cake delivered later that day made me feel very special indeed. The warm dark wood floor & elegant furnishings give the feel of the square jawed British gentleman returning to his mansion, splashed liberally with 20th century comforts such as TV, WiFi & fridge. We were served Lychee Tea in some beautifully decorated china before we were left alone to enjoy our surroundings. The other niceties are there, tea & coffee facilities, safe, hair dryer but no iron & board. The spacious in room bathroom with stand alone bath, & rain shower can be partitioned off from the rest of the room for privacy by rolling shutters.
I was a bit worried about the noise with the road, shops & building site nearby but I slept like a baby in the comfortable king sized bed & didn't hear a thing.
Staff were polite & helpful, showing us the pool, gym & spa on the way to our room. A handy map of the area was provided by reception, who gave us some pointers to orientate ourselves in the area.
We took breakfast the next morning in the Mansion, which is up a flight of stairs from reception. Anyone who has mobility issues needs to check this out before booking as I didn't see any other way up here, plus dinner is served here too. A good choice of food is available from the standard cereals to more creative dishes. I had poached eggs in potato skins with mushroom sauce, mouth-wateringly delicious. We had lunch in the library & all the food we had was beautifully cooked, presented & served.
Its not set in a great looking area but we felt perfectly safe wandering around after dark. All the main attractions are a gentle stroll away, so if you're visiting Malacca I'd thoroughly recommend The Majestic.
