My partner and I stayed 3 nights at The Majestic Hotel in mid-December 2013. It was a last-minute booking due to circumstances and there were only two rooms left. Because of those circumstances, I decided to hang the expense and went ahead and booked and I'm so glad we did.
Everything about the Majestic is gorgeous. From the warm welcome you receive when you walk inside this lovely old world style building, to the lychee tea presented to you when you enter your room, and of course the room itself. We were on the 9th floor with a fantastic view across the river to the carnival. Some people might not like the noise (only minimal) but we loved it. Malacca is such a vibrant city, particularly coming to life at night with colour and sound, and we loved the distant noises of the carnival.
The location is great. Literally right next door to a large hospital (handy!) and within walking distance to everything, although not just round the corner. But take the time to walk to the interesting stuff like the town square and Jonker Street. You won't be disappointed. I think the door staff thought we were mad, the amount of times we went out on foot and came back hours later, tired, hot and dripping with sweat (did I mention that Malacca is *very* hot?!).
Our room was absolutely gorgeous and we felt very pampered. We had a breakfast included deal and that included breakfasts from the menu, not just the buffet. The service staff were all unfailingly lovely and attentive. One morning I wasn't feeling very well at breakfast and went back up to my room. Within minutes, a lovely lady knocked on the door and brought my breakfast in to me on a tray so I could finish it! It was touches like this that made our stay very special indeed.
All staff were courteous and discreet. The front desk staff were all lovely and special thanks must go to the two staff (I'm sorry I can't recall your names!) who helped me print out a bus ticket which I had booked online. I really appreciated all your help.
There are heaps of places to stay in Malacca but if you are happy to spend a little more (our room was the equivalent of a little over $AUD200 per night), I highly recommend The Majestic.
If we had any small quibble, it would be that the TV was set to Al Jazeera News (which we enjoyed for a while but it's basically endless loops of the same news item - in our case, Nelson Mandela's death) and the only other stations available seemed to be other news services or a Chinese infomercial channel (which was quite transfixing in a weird way!). It would have been good to have a movie channel or even a documentary channel. But that's the only thing I can think of that wasn't perfect.
The Majestic is well deserving of its Trip Advisor award.
