“Recommended hotel in Melaka”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 24, 2013

I normally stay in the Executive/Club room. Loved everything about the room, especially the view on Chinese New Year's day, where there's plenty of fireworks to watch while sipping wine and enjoy the company of family and friends. This hotel always make my stay a happy one. Loved the staffs and everything else, but they lack of parking spaces. When I get bored of hotel food, I just walked out to a plenty more choices, which are cheaper and tastier.

i almost didn't go to this hotel becuase of the reviews but honestly it was fine. Annoyingly it also didn't have wifi for the first coupl eof days and then when it started working it disappeared quite quicklybut he guy who was tasked with fixing it was quite lovely.

We got a room with a balcony - there should be more of these in the world. though i wouldn't reccomend our room (626) entirely as it was in a sort of corner so there was no view when you were on the bed only if you actually went out on the balcony.

The other reviews said the hotel was tatty or grotty. it wasn't. in my opinion the carpet is the best way to rate a hotel's scruffy-pristine rating and this was definitely at the top end of the spectrum. i think it may have been recently refurbished.

Location is good but he map of attractions provided at the hotel is not exactly extensive - if there was internet we could have found a bit more. one day we asked about going to the beach but he concierge told us that it 'wasn't popular' so we stayed home. it rained anyway. it was actually kind of chilly the whole while and we turned off the aircon when we arrived and didn't put it back on again. which is almost unheard of for my sweat fearing husband. there was a nice breeze and as we were over looking the pool (the back of the hotel) there weas no traffic noise - very pleasant.

there were no big plus-points but no real lows either. the bar has a very friendly staff and singers but the breakfast was forgetable. this was a disappointment. Breakfasts in Malaysia are usually exceptional. this one was average, not bad, just ordinary. the rest of the food we had there was fine. When we asked for chicken wings from room service tehy gave them too us even though they weren't on the menu. i thought that was nice.

As i mentioned it was a bit rainy and cold so we didn't swim but the pool looked lovely and there is a space next to is that i think would be lovely for an evening party.

After a stressful drive from Johore bahru ( getting used to road signs no decent map and a back road we thought would be pretty) we arrived at the hotel equatorial in Melaka! The greeting was very friendly and efficient and our room was very clean. The only gripe was that for some reason we had to checking on the 21 st floor and I don't understand why. I think it was to do with being in a club room but it was a bit of a wasted effort! The breakfast was good and we really enjoyed the buffet set up.it was a really good base for seeing all the sights of Melaka as it was literally 2 mins walk from the heritage area. All the staff were very polite and we thoroughly enjoyed it

This was the worst hotel I have ever stayed.

Firstly, I booked a twin beds room with non- smorking.
They said to me "Oh, we don't have any rooms with your requests. Only King size bed is available for non- smorking".....
They should have phoned us before we arrived. They even didnt say sorry.

Room was very dump and very old.
I could see some electric cables in the closet....

Next morning, the room light didn't work. So we phone to the reception. after 45 min, noone turn up even though we phoned them twice.
In the mean time, we found a cockroach in the room!!!!
So phone to the reception again, then someone came up to us immediately.....

Break fast was all right. Normal level for this type of hotel.

Over the all we have paid for this service about £110 for 2 person.
I am sure there are better hotels for this price. I can definitly say this is not the service we are expected for 5 star hotel.

The facilities are good, comfortable and the service impeccable. Our room was large and had all the little extras that make a difference. As usual, the mini bar is way overpriced as are the restaurants but it is a nice hotel. It is trying to be something that it does not achieve and “charge for anything extra” culture is annoying. Another annoying point was that all the carpets, everywhere in the corridors and rooms, were stained and dirty looking. The standard of cleanliness was in fact quite good and is spoilt for the want of a good carpet shampoo. This is a “stopover” hotel. I cannot see anyone wanting to stay for more than a few days. Not a bad hotel though.

Room Tip: There are some local restaurants near to the hotel but the cheaper restaurants and bars are a 10 min...

We stayed for 3 days in a club room in February 2013. The staff were very welcoming and friendly but the hotel seemed tired and just not of a high standard. It was poor value for money, but I think that they would do well if they charged less and accepted that they don't live up to the standard of a 5 star hotel. Here is a list of some of the things that seemed inconsistent with a five star hotel:
- The breakfast restaurant offers you coffee or tea when you walk in. We asked for green tea instead and were charged extra (quite a lot extra - we could have bought a meal each with the amount charged). We were expected to pay this additional cost as we left the dining area.
- A very limited amount of tea and coffee bags are provided in you room. If you use up your one or two beverages of choice then you can ask for more but you are charged a small fee for them.
- Our non smoking floor smelled very smokey. Our towels smelled very strongly of smoke.
- Our toilet continually leaked onto the floor and formed an unpleasant pool of water around it's base.
-The rolls of toilet paper are rather low in volume (which caused a problem when they forgot to refresh/make-up our room).
-The ceiling in the bathroom was moldy.
-The club room boasted two balconies, but they were tiny and as such couldn't fit any chairs or tables to sit on to enjoy the view.
Perhaps the blocked toilet and broken hot water system that we experienced were rare events ....or perhaps not! The club room was very quiet. We were usually the only people who turned up for cocktail hour, and by the last night we didn't bother going ourselves.
They seem to be trying hard to be something that they aren't. I would have been happy to stay there if dropped the whole 'Club Room" idea, and just became a friendly cheep hotel in a pretty good location. Most hotels live up to their price, and photos, but this one didn't. You will probably get much better value for your money elsewhere. It is a shame as they have some great staff and a good view. It isn't dreadful, and I really wanted to like it, both for myself and for the sake of the friendly staff there, but I just couldn't recommend it for the current prices that they ask for.

Room Tip: Don't necessarily expect a high room just because you book a club room. You may have to ask for...

Paid RM382 for deluxe room booked online. Paid additional RM60 for extra bed.
We were lucky to be given a newly refurbished and renovated room. However, didn't ask for a room with the view facing Dataran Pahlawan, so ended up facing housing areas.
The hotel is located very near to all major tourist spot. 5- 7 mins walk will lead you to Dataran Pahlawan, Menara Taming Sari, Afarmosa, Istana lama, craft and local items shopping area and Mahkota Parade. Also, spot to purchase ticket and meeting point for Duck Boat Tour, Double Decker Bus and Wildlife and Animal Show. Within 10 – 12 mins walk will take you to River Cruise and Jonker Walk.
If you are driving, the hotel is easy to find and reach as all major roads leading to Dataran Pahlawan will lead you to the hotel. Hotel provide ample parking space – open area in-front of the hotel and covered parking down at the basement.
Checking was fast and staffs are friendly. Housekeeping service is also prompt with our request. The only drawback would be the access from basement to the hotel lobby. If you have big luggage and baby strollers, you may want to drop it at the entrance before driving your card down to basement as there’s no elevator service from the basement parking. There’s only staircase from 3 parking level leading to the lobby which can be troublesome if you have a lot of stuff to carry.
Will definitely stay at this hotel again in my future visit to Melaka.
