“Oldest 5 star hotel in Melaka”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 18, 2011

A little bit of history in this historical place. Nice hotel, well maintained with very friendly but professional staff. Buffet breakfast is excellent with an international flavour. The local flavours to me were the most interesting as I like to try different things especially the local cuisine - just watch how the locals do it and follow them :)
Great location - walking distance to the main attractions and river.

My partner and I stayed at the Renaissance Melaka for one night in between visiting Singapore and KL. We found it to be a wonderful place to stay. Its close proximity to all the attractions of Melacca meant that we were able to fit in all the activities we had hoped to do in our short time there. The rooms were clean and comfortable. The staff were really friendly and helpful - for instance, organising their shuttle bus to take us to the Portuguese Settlement for dinner. The buffet breakfast is also fantastic. Overall, we would recommend this hotel to anyone (singles, couples, families) staying in Melacca.

Room was good ( only bad is the sound proofing is not good enough as can hear flushing of toilet from other rooms . Services at reception is wonderful !!!

The service level stands out from the average Malaysian hotels. Staff was very helpful during check-in and through out the stay. Stayed in one of the Club Rooms and found the place to be quite nice. Club Lounge has nice pre-dinner snacks.

We did not stay there but strongly recommend. I talk about our story around but wanted to share with more people.

We are regular tourists to Malacca. We drove from Singapore to Malacca as usual but our car was broken down on the street, slightly after the Renaissance hotel. We had no reason to suspect the cause of the broken down as it was in good condition. We managed to move the car to a roadside and trying to get a repairer for a check. But it was a long weekend (Haji public holiday). Not easy to find one. Our young children were getting hungry and tired at the roadside. It was around noon.

We were so desparate and worrying. We decided to get a taxi and check-in Equatorial hotel first, which we booked as a usuall place in Malacca. We waited and waited, but there was a traffic jam and all taxies were occupied.

We walked in the Renaissance hotel and asked a concierge if he did not mind helping us to call a taxi. I also told him that we were not staying with them.

The concierge noticed our desparate situation. It was a very busy time during a peak period for a check-in/out. But he efficiently arraged taxies for their guests and attended us shortly. He even arranged a repairer for us. In fact, all the taxies were taken and he arragned a hotel wagon. We only paid 20RM for the wagon.

While waiting for the wagon, a bell man served us a glass of cold fuirt juice for each of us. We told him that we were not staying just waiting for a wagon. It was thankful enough if only allowing us to sit down and wait in the air-conditioned hotel lobby. But they said that you and kids must be very tired and please take. We were in fact very thirsty as we waited at roadside under the hot sun.

Thereafter, a restrautant manager came to say hello to us with a smile. I talked her that we were from Singapore and it was a disaster in our holidays. She gave our kids a chocolate dounut in a paper bag, saying they must be hungry. The wagon arrived shortly and they said to us "no worries, please visit Malacca again and stay with us next time!"

Our car was finally toned to Singapore. It could have been a serious accident if we did not handle the situation properly. We were relieved when we arrived home safely.

Finally, thank you to all the staff of the Renaissance hotel. We will go back to you very soon!!

Currently staying in Kuala Lumpur for a few months, we decided to get out of the city and explore a little, and chose last minute to drive to Malacca for the weekend.

The Renaissance is a good 15 minute, straight forward walk to the attractions of this historic little village. The check-in experience was ordinary with the staff appearing to be rather underwhelmed with their positions. The rooms are a very good size with a very comfortable bed, although the rooms are tired, old and pretty basic. The pool is big although again very boring old and tired surrounds.

We didn't eat in any of the establishments so not in a position to comment.

All in all given a rate of Rm300.00 the hotel is comfortable just don't expect too much.

We would stay here again if it was all that was available but would most likely stay elsewhere.

Room Tip: we had a corner room 2112 which is obviously room 12 on the 21st floor. Very good size

As a malaccan, have to stay a few nights yearly when I bring my kids back to hometown.
Overall good hotel, good staff. But the room condition does show the age, IMO some upgrading needed.
Nonetheless, king of Malaysia choose here over other hotels for his stay, saw twice. So it probably means the old charm of the hotel remains.
