“Good location, reasonable pricing but service could be improved”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 30, 2014

Stayed for 2 nights in June 2014 and the overall experience was good. Although it could be better during check in, but it was acceptable especially we were checking in on Sun and everyone was checking out.
Lots of shopping nearby and walking distance to Jonker Street. Good exercise after eating chicken rice and assam laksa. Rooms are well furnished and spacious. We thought that the complimentary breakfast is going to be a mad rush but they handled it quite well. The spread was good and quality acceptable.
Parking is a little inconvenient as it is shared between the hotel and the mall but a little patience is all you need. Will stay at Hatten again, perhaps offering some discounts during low periods will be good.

After reading the past positive reviews on this new hotel, our expectations were high. We check-in exactly at 3pm, hotel check in time, the room wasn't ready yet. We were given a room only at 4pm!!! No apology or what-so-ever. Overall the room is ok for Malacca standard. Personally I think it's NOT worth SGD165 per night (Deluxe)!

These are the few things we like and dislike about the hotel:

LIKE
1) Free parking
2) Sky bridge linking to the 2 big malls, but not really near Jonker street
3) Room view
4) Staffs are friendly and helpful
5) Strong water pressure

DISLIKE
1) The hotel is more for the big travel group
2) Poor breakfast which dine inside the big ballroom and sharing table with big travel group
3) Have to go down to Ground floor to valid parking ticket before you exit the car park at 5-6th floor which you'll normally ended up parking at
4) Need to pay at the ground floor first prior to every call you intend to make from your hotel room
5) Busy front counter, slow check in
6) Cleanliness can be improved

Room Tip: Higher floor can have a glimpse of the Straits of Malacca.

Am impressed with the room with two TV. It's great when the man decides to watch world cup and I could have what I want to watch as well. The bed was comfy (and huge for two skinny bones) and the staffs were really nice qnd friendly. Location was good with an overheadbridge linking the hotel to the shopping mall across the street. Pretty near all the attractions around. This hotel stay was a plus point to our short getaway.

Wow, 2 TVs in a room? Enjoyed the gym as it has decent equipment and the pool. Loved that H&M and Pacific Coffee was co-located at the hotel. Breakfast was way too crowded for me, fd so-so. Hotel was abt 15-20min walk to Jonker st but very near to Amy's heritage cuisine which served great Peranakan fd.

Overall the hotel has been one of the best hotels in Malaysia. While the breakfast isn't always the hottest, the selection is good. Beware, while there don't seem to be many options for laundry in the area, you will spend a fortune to have it done by the Hatten. Not only are the per piece prices ridiculous, they add a service charge and many taxes. All in all, what would normally be one load at home cost us about $90US!!!

Room Tip: The higher up you are the longer it takes to get an elevator...

Hatten is a beautiful hotel, with a good location in the centre of city. The lobby is very impressive. The interior was beautiful and rather massive. We stayed at the premier floor in the junior suites. Check in was done at the 12 Floor. The staff at the check in was great. They tried to accommodate us and provided fantastic service. There is where it stopped. Due to the unbelievable number of people patronizing the hotel, it becomes like a busy shopping centre at sale time! All day! My advise is not to go during long weekends or school holidays. The service staff were kept on their feet 24/7 literally! Breakfast was a nightmare! You either jostle with the crowd or queue for a table. The premier floor was no different from the other floors as compared to other hotels where there is an age limit. It became more like a playground for kids and families. Despite all this, the service staff were calm, courteous and accommodating. On the plus side, the shopping centre is connected to the hotel offering easy access. The room was good and beds were comfortable. Many eateries available outside the hotel. Hotel high tea and steamboat buffet priced reasonably and is substantial. Overall stay was good minus the crowds.

Room Tip: Select the premier rooms from 19 floor upwards. Far from the 'maddening' crowds and also qui...

Room: Deluxe Suite twin-beds. Each bed 105cm (41") width is smaller than the 120cm that some hotels provide so it is a little tight if sharing with a child. The towel rack is narrow and inadequate for airing towels.

Breakfast: There are many guests at the hotel and they serve breakfast in both the restaurant and a ballroom. We had breakfast at the ballroom on the 1st morning and in the restaurant on the 2nd morning. In our opinion, try to be early to be seated in the restaurant so that you are greeted by daylight, and there seemed to be more variety in the restaurant.

Variety - Good. Quality - Average. Taste - Poor. Hygiene - ?
Cooked food is bland, non appetizing, not well cooked (either under-cooked or over-cooked) or tasted wrong.

Housekeeping: Used tissue by previous guests on the floor beside the empty dustbin. Next day, housekeeping emptied the dustbin but did not clear the tissue. Missing towels and housekeeping did not deliver after 30mins wait. Eventually, approached a chambermaid. 2nd day, floor mat was missing. Hotels usually provide an extra toilet paper roll on standby, but Hatten did not. In the night, we were unable to contact both housekeeping and the front desk for toilet paper. In urgent need as the husband was having incessant diarrhea, the wife intruded the housekeeping room on the same level to find the toilet paper.

Guest Service: The husband had stomach ache after breakfast on the 1st morning and was diagnosed with severe food poisoning at the Mahkota Medical Centre. He had stomach spasm and diarrhea, and was vomiting the whole afternoon and night. (Prior to breakfast, he was not feeling unwell. He did not consume anything else before he was unwell.) Explaining that the husband suffered from food poisoning probably due to breakfast, the front desk staff was not particularly concerned and just said that she would feedback to the Duty Manager. However, no hotel staff came forward to address the food poisoning incident. We doubt that our case has been highlighted to the management.

Conclusion: We feel that the hotel is not interested in the well-being of its guests. We will not be back.
