“Great hotel”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 21, 2012

This hotel, for its low prices, is actually really good. It seems rather new and bright. The room is spacious and there's a space to put luggage under the window. Bed is large, firm but comfy. Staff are friendly and helpful , Wi-fi a bit slow (don't expect to watch YouTube videos). Staying on higher floors does cancel out the music from the fountain beside the hotel, which plays till 11pm+. There's a river cruise station beside the hotel, so it's convenient. It's a 15-20mins walk to Jonker Street and Stadthuys. However, only one bus route run near the hotel to Melaka Sentral station. 2 blocks away there's a better bus stop, with services to Mahkota Parade/Dataran Pahlawan, the two larger malls in Melaka.

Room Tip: Try to get a room facing the river as there's a nicer view. It may be more expensive however. Al...

For the price I paid, I expected a lesser hotel but was pleasantly surprised that it was more than what I had expected. I'm not sure if it's newly refurbished but the lobby gave me that impression. However, in the rooms I could see stains on the walls and mirrors. Not sure if they're going to fix that. It's a 15 minute walk along the riverside to Jonker street, so the location is good as well. It does get noisy at night with some restaurants blasting music until 2am but that is beyond the hotels control. Rooms are quite big and airy as well. Small TV and furniture are a bit old but it's not a big issue. Overall, definitely value for money.

Enjoyed this value-driven comfortable hotel. Great location beside the river - great for walks into the Jonker St UNESCO heritage listed area. Staff were courteous and helpful. High speed wifi in public areas and room also free internet access computers in foyer. Laundry service is expensive but was a laundry in Jalan Munshi Abdullah St about 2 blocks from the hotel is good. Ate at Dutch Riverside restaurant on the east bank and Little Mamas on the riverside westside - both were good and reasonbly priced. King bed firm but comfortable bed.

Room Tip: Ask for a room with a view of the river.

We stayed for 1 night, and all in all, the rooms was nice though toiletries seems to be of low quality. Breakfast was basic but I wouldn’t have paid for it given the choice. Staff are friendly and helpful.

Location was fine, a 10-15c min walk to Jonka Street via the canal, most pleasant.

My biggest gripe is the noise from nearby bars as there was very loud music to 2am for a bar opposite which kept me awake. I called reception to ask for ear plugs but they didn’t have any, so bring your own.

Interestingly, there is no mini bar and they don’t sell alcoholic drinks at this hotel.

Dear Guest,

Thank you very much for your comments about your stay with us.

We are doing our best to work with the bar owners to keep the noise to a minimum however sometimes it is difficult to control partygoers as you may know.

The reason why we do not serve alcohol is becasue we are a Dry Hotel. However, the bars across the river help us with this. As for the minibars, we have noticed that most of our guests bring their own items and do not use our minibar items. However, we do have soft drinks being sold in cans in our restaurants.

Thank you and best regards

I stayed at the hotel in Sept 2012. We had a connecting room. The room is simple and space is good size. However, the toilet need some work. The toilet is function, but the window seems to be broken and there were small inserts flying around. My son was so scared of the toilet.
The free wifi is strong and good in the room we had.

Will go there if i want big connecting rooms when I am in that area.

Having paid quite a decent rate for a 2 night weekend stay over a public holiday we weren't too worried about the quality of the hotel. However, it really was very basic. The air conditioning was terrible, and unless you leave your room card in the room, the air conditioning and fridge are turned off. We eventually just went to reception and asked for another room card much to the displeasure of the reception staff. Also, soon after checking in I was left wondering where the pool was as I had checked the website before booking and this was one of the reasons for booking the hotel. We were informed with a massive laugh from the receptionist...sorry the pool is not finished yet!!! Breakfast is cold, and not filled up regularly. The only good thing about this hotel is the location, very close to Jonker street although the river is not exactly beautiful.
Good for a budget traveller, noisy at night as well. Walls are thin between rooms.

We stayed in Best Western Wanna Riverside Hotel for one night during our recent visit to Malacca in early September 2012.

The room is spacious and the bed is comfortable. The riverside view from the room is nice. However, the music from the riverside was quite noisy till wee hours in the morning.

The air conditioning was bad. It was quite warm in the room even during night time. The heater for the shower was not functioning at all, leaving me shivering when taking my shower. This was a bad experience which I had never experienced with other hotels that I had stayed before.

The walk from the hotel to Jonker Streets along the riverside was an enjoyable experience.

The Jonker Street night market during weekends is a must-visit place. Lots of great food here, the Ice Kacang is so good that people just don't mind queuing under the hot sun to get a taste of it.
