“Great Hotel, try it!!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 19, 2012

This a new hotel and located at Kota Laksamana Utama which is a new development area in Melaka City. New shophouses and plenty of eateries nearby. As hotel is new, everything is spic and span...Value for money?? Absolutely at RM148 nett with breakfast? What?? Room is big and spacious with all facilities, hair dryer, lovely duvet covers, super comfy beds, coffee & tea making facilities and LCD TV. Bonus - great bathroom with a super duper RAIN SHOWER!! Wonderful...Stayed 1 night and would return for sure. Only one negative comment - the breakfast really need some work. Although decent (it is free after all) need to increase the variety and quality as well. As I was on a business trip and would need to stay a couple of nights, can't imagine eating the same breakfast for days!

Room Tip: Oh, forgot to mention - this hotel is IMMENSELY popular so very difficult to get rooms...book early!

Stay in a family room. Big and spacious with two King size beds, two LCD TV. Not too far from the main tourist attractions. May be a bit isolated as it is a standalone building with nothing near to it. Good clean rooms, friendly service.

1. It is a nice & new hotel and not far from the old Malacca town centre.
2. We booked 2 rooms and the rooms were connected - very convenient for our children to be close with us.
3. The hotel location is just near by to the old town. Plenty car parks.

Stayed there for 2 nights and have nothing to complain about the hotel. Greeted with friendly receptionists with pretty fast check in. The room we have is very decent and the toilet is very clean. We especially love the rain shower head and the ventilation system in the toilet. Free Wifi is provided and it would be very convenience for tourists like me to search for places of interest online. The breakfast buffet is pretty decent though not much choice. Car park is at the road side but I think it is pretty safe as long as we park near the hotel.

The only complain I have is the location of this hotel. It is situated in the new precinct which is not located in 3 GPS systems we have tried. We were lost and finally managed to find the hotel after looking for landmarks nearby. The hotel is also quite far from tourist spots and shopping complexes so it would only be good if you have a transport to travel around.

Would definitely love to be back again the next time.

Room Tip: Rooms at level 3 have big balconies.

Booked a family room as well as another with twin beds. On opening both room doors, we were hit by very strong smell of room freshner. When the smell dissipated in the Family room 8426, it was replaced by a very sour pervasive odour that lingered throughout our stay, despite alerting the Front Desk. Rooms come with hair dryer and a kettle that needs to be turned off manually after the water boils. Toiletries provided are minimal - just 2 small bottles sufficient to last for one person. Free wifi in the rooms is very weak and fluctuates.
Hotel was built on reclaimed land, and the area is barely developed, so there are no convenience stores or eateries nearby. Hotel was opened less than a year ago in November 2911, yet the white laminate in the rooms as well as lobby are already chipped and scraped along the bottom, due to the poor quality laminate used.
As hotel is a fair distance the tourist area, it provides free shuttle service to the tourist spots, one in the morning and two in the afternoon. At 2 in the afternoon, we were told that the next available and the last shuttle would be at 4 pm, with no return trip. Alternatively, it would cost MYR5 per person to get a shuttle at 3 pm. Calling a cab would have been a better alternative as it would have cost MYR15 only.
The complimentary breakfast was very basic with very limited selections.
For my next trip, I will be booking one of the boutique hotels right in the centre of the tourist area, as the room rates cost the same and the rooms are much nicer.

Room Tip: Bring your own toiletries, snacks and beverages, as there re no shops round.

We were going to book a room at Hotel Puri, but unfortunately it was fully booked. A friend suggested Marvelux instead. The hotel is located a bit far from the historical old city, but they provide shuttle cars (schedule given at the front desk). Scheduled shuttles are for free, but you can also arrange a shuttle car to and from the old city at your convenience by paying certain amount (it was 5RM per person when we were there). There's also a shuttle to Malacca Sentral, the bus terminal. It's not a free service tho, and cost about 10 RM per person (minimum 2 pax). One of the drivers (an Indian) was really nice and friendly.
Service was excellent, except one morning when I called the receptionist and was answered by a very rude man who hung up after he rudely answered my question. Don't know who he was, but other receptionists (particularly the ladies) were very polite, friendly, and helpful.
The hotel is new and clean. The room we stayed in (double deluxe) was very nice, and it has a balcony where we could look at the street and the ocean, although it doesn't provide a great view. There's buffet breakfast from 7-9am, menu varies from the local nasi lemak to typical Western breakfast of toast and eggs. This is Malaysia, so don't expect bacon. If there is bacon, it's beef and not pork.
There's a restaurant in the vicinity, named Windmill. Apparently it's quite popular for the locals, judging by the difficulties we had to find ourselves a table on a very busy Saturday night. Guests who stay at Marvelux should find a flyer of this restaurant at the front desk, because it has discount coupons. BTW, we loved their watermelon juice! The staff were quite helpful and friendly, but only two speak English. If you like seafood, there are 2 local seafood restaurants there too.

Stayed at this hotel for two nights when it was opened in November 2011. Room is nice and modern with great shower facility and the rate included a simple breakfast. A little away from the attractions but a shuttle service is provided, although we did drive so it wasn't a problem.

Room Tip: When you travel to Malacca, the choice is between staying at the historical part of town, Jonker Str...
