I paid 17 Singapore$ for one night here. It was such a cheap price that I should not complain at all, but here I'll point some things out.
My room was a 4 bed (1 double bed + 1 bunk bed) 4 person accommodating room.
It had a "bathroom" which was basically a closet with a tiny sink and a shower tube in it (check tripadv pictures). The WC itself was shared (there are 3 at each floor).
Everything is minimal, beginning with the reception. The staff is quite kind and helpful, though.
There is free wifi, which is a good plus point.
The room provides only 1 towel to each customer, too bad they looked dirty being stained with dark spots; luckily I brought one from home.
The room has A/C and only few of them have a window, the others are light-locked and can be only lighted up artificially. Luckily I had a windowed room so I won't complain about this and managed not to get depressed by the lack of sun.
Beds are of course small, and the pillow barely elevates the head from the mattress. I think the bed were clean only because the rooms look not too much old, but I have some doubt on the actual cleaning going on there...
No soap/shower soaps are provided so bring yours !!
Public bathrooms were always dirty and floors wet when I tried to use them; luckily I stayed there only 2d1n so I avoided the chance to challenge such conditions. I would thus strongly suggest to get one of those rooms with "half-bathroom" in them at least to reduce public bathrooms usage.
Overall it was worth the ridiculous price I paid for it.
Since I went there for CNY everywhere else was booked and after all it wasn't too bad of an experience for such a short time and at such a price. I am not the hostel type of person by the way.
Sayang Sayang is actually halfway between an hostel and a cheap guesthouse.
The real strong point however is its location: right in the middle of Malacca's Chinatown, you can easily enjoy the Chinatown market and reach the main square in 5 mins walk.
Don't go there if you're strongly allergic to dust. The place was allergy palace for me and had to use antihistamines and tissues every time.
Get a room (1) with a window and (2) with a bathroom. You still will have to use the public WC.
