Owner description: Take a journey into Old Malacca within our walls. Step through the doors and visit a fine example of a late 18th century two-storey building. “No 8” houses a permanent exhibit on the conservation and restoration process of the building, as well as a short history of early shophouse and Dutch hybrid domestic architecture. The house is open Tuesdays to Saturdays from 10:30am to 4pm. No entrance fee; but donations are welcome.

“A great educational experience”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 2, 2013

This is a really interesting way to experience and discover more about the restoration of heritage buildings in Melaka.
There are informative wall signs and pictures, and just wandering throughout the house allows you to understand a little better, and catch a glimpse of Old Melaka.
The staff member was fantastic and told us a lot of valuable and interesting information, and was more than happy to answer questions.
This NGO runs purely on donations; there is no fee for this attraction, but consider giving a small donation if you feel like you took something away from the experience.

“to feel or not to feel”

so dark yet so mysterious. That chap really knows what he should know. it was beyond our expectation of what we will see in restoring the heritage in Malacca. wonder where the 'well' leads to. hmm...

“Fascinating”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 30, 2013

We were guided by an enthusiastic local gentleman who was involved in the restoration and regaled us with the stories of old Melaka, the Chinese babas, Portuguese and Dutch East India traders; the colourful history recorded in the architecture of the old Chinatown area and in the blood and faces of the people on the street. Well worth the visit. Donate generously: it's free.

“Old times”

Interesting to see the heritage of the Dutch in the 17th century. And also to see how well the history is preserved
