“Not Much”

Not much to experience here. Did not feel I got any feeling of knowing what was interesting here. Perphaps a permanent guide or guides to show and explain.

“Takes 10 minutes”

Restored house with information on boards. Only 3 rooms. Not a 'must see'. Guide explained some history but had read up so sorry I was bored.

“Experience life in old Melaka”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 29, 2012

No 8 Heeren Street Heritage Centre is a most interesting place to visit. An excellent restoration of an old shophouse has taken place. The guide there was most informative and gave of his time willingly. So many of the older buildings have fallen into disrepair it is noteworthy that this little house has been spruced up. If you want to see what life in old Melaka was like, this is your place to visit.

“small treasure”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 9, 2012

Interesting restoration project. Ah ha moment when I realized that this house form was based on 17th century Dutch houses and pre-dated the Peranakan houses. The Peranakans borrowed, as did the Chinese who were also mixed into this old section of town. The beach was originally right across the street from this house, and the area was later filled in. Worth a visit, and fun to talk to the guide to get a sense of old Malacca.
