Smooth checkin at sitdown front desk where we were given cold towels and ginger/lemon sorbet on arrival.Meantime our bags were whisked to our room overlooking the lago (lagoon) and river beyond. In the distance we could see the Malacca straits.
As nice as the room was, we moved the next night to a magnificent corner "suite". This was almost as big as our home in Australia. It had a large entrance hall, "guest wc", lounge, dining, study massive bedroom with daybed and huge bathroom with spa, wc and bidet. The shower was a very large "rainshower". The balcony was a wraparound corner that overlooked the best part of the river and the Portuguese galleon on the other side of the river.
The study, lounge and bedroom all had windows overlooking the river.
Breakfast was seved in the River Grill and consisted of 1 item cooked to order and a buffet with many choices.
We had lunch in the River Cafe one day (served by the delightful and tiny) As.The steamboat was really tasy and filling - enough for 2 people at RM28++
The Bar - Bar Rio had live music in the evenings (except Mondays?), and had snbacks and pricey cocktails. Happy hour saw half priced beer.
The pool is exquisite, with its sunlounges, huge blue fluffy towels, friendly attendants, infinity styling that allowed you to wallow in the water whilst taking the amazing view. We also arranged food from the River Cafe as we didnt like the food on the menu (which incidentally was the room service food). We ordered wonderful pizza served on a wooden panel which had a heated clay base to keep the pizza hot and crispy. On Saturday nights they have a "White Party" there, with movies shown in the pool.
The hotel location is right on the river. 50metres away is Herren st and another 50m to Jonker St where the dragon(snake?) spouts water each hour.
