“Lovely boutique hotel, great location and service!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 14, 2012

Just came back from a weekend getaway to the romantic Casa Del Rio Melaka hotel.

For the price of RM500/night, we were not disappointed! Hotel is located within walking distance to Jonker Street (great for shopping & eating), Dutch square, clock tower, the new Hard Rock shop (Hard Rock Cafe will be ready by December 2012 - hopefully!) and the Melaka river cruise. Location wise, it was great! It was also within walking distance to the many Melaka good food places like Capitol Satay Celup (10 mins walk), Sun May Hiong pork satay (10 mins walk), Jonker 88 cendol (5 mins), Jonker Hawker Centre (5 mins), Donald & Lily nyonya food (2 mins) etc. We didn't need to drive our car out at all as these places can be reached by walking.

Service and check-in were top notch. From the waitress to any hotel staffs, we were always greeted by smiling and courteous staffs! I especially like the check-in service where we were seated at the sofa area under a gazebo and the front desk brought the check-in documents for us to sign. At check-in, we were also greeted with personalised welcome note, cold towel and shaved ginger ice - really refreshing after a 2 hours drive!

We stayed at the Deluxe 'Lago' room (I think this is the cheapest category) but don't get me wrong, the room was fabulous! Great size, king bed, balcony that we can opened up and get some fresh air, nice view from the room, generous sized bath tub with all the pampering toiletries raging from Molton Brown hand soap, natural cinnamon bath soap (the hotel was so thoughtful that they even provided a small zip lock bag for you to pack the unfinished soap home!), bath salt etc and all the toiletries seems to be made from natural ingredients and smell like heaven! Room is equipped with oversized bath towel, posh bath robe, rubber ducky (Not sure why though?) and sandals. The sweet Malacca delicacies - "onde-onde" is also served in the room! .

The only thing I find missing is the laundry bag (the type that you can take home) and an umbrella!

Swimming pool is on the roof top - infinity pool and looks huge but lack of natural greenery.

Breakfast was included in the hotel price. It was served at River Grill Restaurant, a pretty nice and quaint set-up. Breakfast is semi-buffet and diners were also given a choice to order ala-carte from the breakfast menu. We ordered Egg Florentine, Roasted Mushrooms and Big Breakfast from the ala-carte menu. Food was quite good and they also have other Asian menu like Roti Canai, Porridge etc but we didn't try it. Fresh fruit juice, premium coffee and tea are also served during breakfast. As the restaurant is just next to the river, you can ask for a table outside and it is pretty romantic to dine there.

Another not to be missed is The Library located at the hotel ground floor, next to the hotel retail shop. Access to the Library is via the hotel key card. You can use the free internet, make yourself a cup or two of premium espresso & premium tea (moroccon mint, earl grey, english breakfast or chamomile), read the newspaper or simply get a book from the book shelves. Quiet and peaceful!

Some constructions is on-going for the 2nd phase of the hotel. The noise can be a little disturbing but it stopped before the sky turn dark. However, if you are allergic to noise, do request from hotel for a room away from the construction.

Would love to be backed again soon with my kids but unfortunately, the hotel doesn't have any connecting rooms.

Stayed at Casa Del Rio with my Mother and Sisters. The hotel is in a great location near the river, walking distance to Jonker Street and the Historical Sites which are worth seeing. The rooms are big, clean and very comfortable. The breakfast and meals we had at all the restaurants were very tasty and enjoyable and the staff were very attentative to our needs. If you want a nice relaxing holiday, this is the best place to stay in Melaka, we couldn't find anything to complain about. We would love to go back there again.

Excellent Hotel fantastic welcoming booking in with a lovely Ginger and Lime Sorbet by Adam who was really a credit to the hotel....

Breakfast was excellent sitting by the river watching the boats..

All was good food etc the hotel was busy as we went over chinese new year. We forgot some items of clothing and they hotel offered to Courier to us but as I decided that we enjoyed so much we booked again so they are holding our items till we return in March.

looking forward to going back :-)

We stayed in Casa Del Rio on our quick weekend getaway from Singapore to Melacca. We booked through their web site and requested two rooms next to each other, with connecting door if possible. The online booking was confusing and we didn't know for example if the breakfast was included or not before we got there. We confirmed our connecting door request via e-mail and got feedback that they don't have connecting rooms. E-mail correspondence was slow but we got the information at the end.

We arrived to the hotel around 1pm and the rooms were ready for us right away even though official check-in time was 3pm. Rooms were great, absolutely no complaints. Clean, good beds, big bathroom, nice balcony. All in all this fairly new hotel was very nice, all facilities were clean and tidy, and roomy. Free internet access (cable) was working well in the room. Saturday night there was some noise coming from the downstairs bar, but it wasn't bothering us, but if you're sensitive to that kind of noise that might be an issue. Swimming pool on the top floor was also very nice. In our package we had access to a room called library, where you got tea and coffee, as well as two computers to check your e-mails etc. Library was very comfortable and we visited it many times.

We used the hotel restaurant once for dinner and once for breakfast. Dinner was good, service was good, price was maybe a bit too much. We took also buffet breakfast and it was disappointing for the RM35++ price. There were fruits, breads, some pastries, samosas, fried rice, cereal, yogurt, orange juice and watermelon juice. Sounds a lot, and you got your stomach full. But for the price you would have expected to get maybe omelette, or scrambled eggs, or eggs of some kind, as well as some cold cuts for the toast like cheese and ham. So the buffet breakfast was ok at most.

All the staff we encountered were very polite and helpful. One little exception; we asked for a late check out suggesting that if we could keep even one of the rooms for a little later than the regular noon check-out. Without checking the clerk said the hotel was full and late check-out was not possible. Maybe, but the hotel didn't seem that full?

All in all very pleasant stay, so I'm happy to recommend the hotel. Price is a bit high but at least the stay was very comfortable.

The best boutique hotel I have ever stayed! Located a few steps away from Jonker Walk, by the river and with absolutely gorgeous and big rooms. The roof top swimming pool is an extra bonus at the end of the day. Staff was friendly and do not have anything else to say apart from absolutely GREAT.

My family and I stayed here for 1 night, a short getaway during Chinese New Year from Singapore. I booked this place because of the wonderful review and it had not disappoint, even my mother who is quite picky loved this place as it is simply stunning. The location is good for exploring the old town as it is within walking distance to Jonker street and the river, but quite fare from the new town - and the taxi they booked for us at the reception was a rip off 20 ringgit and it's a 30-40 minutes walk otherwise. Infinity swimming pool is awesome and overlooks great scenery. The rooms are just superbly decorated and massive. One of the best hotels I've stayed in, worth the premium price.

Room Tip: River lounge
