Just came back from a weekend getaway to the romantic Casa Del Rio Melaka hotel.
For the price of RM500/night, we were not disappointed! Hotel is located within walking distance to Jonker Street (great for shopping & eating), Dutch square, clock tower, the new Hard Rock shop (Hard Rock Cafe will be ready by December 2012 - hopefully!) and the Melaka river cruise. Location wise, it was great! It was also within walking distance to the many Melaka good food places like Capitol Satay Celup (10 mins walk), Sun May Hiong pork satay (10 mins walk), Jonker 88 cendol (5 mins), Jonker Hawker Centre (5 mins), Donald & Lily nyonya food (2 mins) etc. We didn't need to drive our car out at all as these places can be reached by walking.
Service and check-in were top notch. From the waitress to any hotel staffs, we were always greeted by smiling and courteous staffs! I especially like the check-in service where we were seated at the sofa area under a gazebo and the front desk brought the check-in documents for us to sign. At check-in, we were also greeted with personalised welcome note, cold towel and shaved ginger ice - really refreshing after a 2 hours drive!
We stayed at the Deluxe 'Lago' room (I think this is the cheapest category) but don't get me wrong, the room was fabulous! Great size, king bed, balcony that we can opened up and get some fresh air, nice view from the room, generous sized bath tub with all the pampering toiletries raging from Molton Brown hand soap, natural cinnamon bath soap (the hotel was so thoughtful that they even provided a small zip lock bag for you to pack the unfinished soap home!), bath salt etc and all the toiletries seems to be made from natural ingredients and smell like heaven! Room is equipped with oversized bath towel, posh bath robe, rubber ducky (Not sure why though?) and sandals. The sweet Malacca delicacies - "onde-onde" is also served in the room! .
The only thing I find missing is the laundry bag (the type that you can take home) and an umbrella!
Swimming pool is on the roof top - infinity pool and looks huge but lack of natural greenery.
Breakfast was included in the hotel price. It was served at River Grill Restaurant, a pretty nice and quaint set-up. Breakfast is semi-buffet and diners were also given a choice to order ala-carte from the breakfast menu. We ordered Egg Florentine, Roasted Mushrooms and Big Breakfast from the ala-carte menu. Food was quite good and they also have other Asian menu like Roti Canai, Porridge etc but we didn't try it. Fresh fruit juice, premium coffee and tea are also served during breakfast. As the restaurant is just next to the river, you can ask for a table outside and it is pretty romantic to dine there.
Another not to be missed is The Library located at the hotel ground floor, next to the hotel retail shop. Access to the Library is via the hotel key card. You can use the free internet, make yourself a cup or two of premium espresso & premium tea (moroccon mint, earl grey, english breakfast or chamomile), read the newspaper or simply get a book from the book shelves. Quiet and peaceful!
Some constructions is on-going for the 2nd phase of the hotel. The noise can be a little disturbing but it stopped before the sky turn dark. However, if you are allergic to noise, do request from hotel for a room away from the construction.
Would love to be backed again soon with my kids but unfortunately, the hotel doesn't have any connecting rooms.
