“Value for money boutique hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 12, 2012

We chose the hotel for its fanciful pictures of the rooms it portrayed. They have many carparks for those driving in malaysia or from singapore. Location wise, guests mostly drive, if not it will be pretty inconvenient if you prefer to live in a shopping centred area. The room is really sweet as expected. One of the best boutique hotels i have stayed. Everything is practically beautiful. The room doesn't face any nice scenery with forests around it an empty field towards its left. All's good except the service. The reception actually gave another guest our room even before we checked out! But yeah we were past our check out time. We were shocked though when we were packing a stranger opened our door.

I loved this hotel the moment I stepped foot into it!

In a nutshell, here's why

The service was excellent, the broken light bulb was repaired within 15 mins just before Xmas eve, I forgot to turn off my car lights and someone did it for me, because I was too tired to walk back in the rain to the car park. The breakfast was simple and nice, the decor was extravagant and avant gardeish, have you been in a hotel in Asia with black as the theme? NO!!

I paid RM480 for this room, what happened was that my uncle decided on the last minute that he wanted to tour Malacca, on his 2 week from from UK. So I was frantically calling all hotels in Jonker Walk and they were so fully booked that I had to call the bigger ones but they were booked too so I started my search for hotels further away from Melaka town and found this one that had just the room I needed for 4 pax but at the price of RM 480 excluding RM 50 room deposit you pay upon check in.

The room I stayed in with my family had rotateable wall mounted 42 inch LCD TV, two air conditioned unit, a petite balcony facing the town and the sea far below, a chaise-lounge, 2 double beds, a minibar tucked under the dressing table, a huge stand lamp, a weighing scale, a full length mirror, cupboard with 2 extra pillows and built in light fixtures as well as safe deposit box in it.

There was three layers of curtains hanging and the array of colors was trully warming. Now, the shower!! By.Far.Hands.Down.The.Best.Hotel.Shower.Ever Aside the usual toiletries you find in all hotels, they had body shower jets, hand held shower and overhead rain shower mounted in the bathroom. The water pressure was amazing and it took me a while to learn how to user the shower jets!

We watched Xmas fireworks from the comfort of our hotel and in the middle of the night, we woke up when the guests upstairs got drunk and threw water glass which hit our balcony and smashed unto the balcony floor. Luckily we had the balcony doors closed otherwise there would be glasses all over the room! We stayed on the 6th floor, I think the room number was 618 or 612, its the first room on your left after you exit the elevator. Stays 4 adults.

The area of improvement for this hotel? I wished we had more ceiling lights/brighter lights instead of tiny yellow lamps because with the curtains pulled down, the room did get dark. I loved this hotel, and I would definitely come back!

Note that during peak period, parking would be a problem and you'd have park across the street but this is totally safe because there's 2 guards on shifts that watch the carpark.

The room - the basic twin was a little small but fairly well equiped but on check in the phone was unserviceable , the room safe was unserviceable , the water boiler was unserviceable - when request fixes - initially no action but upon second visit to front desk action was done and all defective parts was replaced .
Check in was a little sticky - I turned up at around 1300 hours and was told check in is at 1400 hours and was asked to wait till the appropriate time - I insisted and asked if the room was cleaned and available - the answer was yes so what was the issue about checking in since it was ready - after a few minutes that was done
Now no more free in room internet - only two bottles of drinking water - but do note that there is an internet room downstairs which is free to use.
Breakfast the following morning is included in the room price but the food standard is barely acceptable - I came down a bit late and found the serving area is very small outside, hardly sufficient if even 50% of the guest showed up the hotel- luckily it was a dry morning , if it was raining then it will not work as it was open air .
The noise insulation was poor as the foreign China guests that stayed over night from a tour group was up nice and early yelling and stomping the corridor waking me up - hey it is sunday and I would like a little more sleep ,
The decor is Ok in fact bordering on tacky - there is no food outlets in the house but the coffee shop across the street and next door is OK at night but day seems to be closed.
Overall for the price I would say it is quite acceptable - as said in earlier posts - the parking is an issue at the forecourt of the hotel - there is a remote car park diagonally across the road but if you were not told - you would not have realsied it is there and it could do with some maintenance of area cleaning and grass cutting - the grass is tall and maybe have snakes lurking around and no security guard on duty

i stayed here with band mates on and exchange. The room looked clean, but we found cotton buds concealed under the dressing table. Beds are too springy, pillows to soft. Soundproofing is almost zero, flushing of toilet from neighbour's room could be heard distinctly. I visited another neighbour's room and found cockroaches in the roller bed. The absence of curtains in the shower area causes the whole bathroom to get wet, and the rain shower, regardless of how 'state-of-the-art' it looked, failed to impress as water was either freezing cold or scalding hot.i definitely think this is not the quality a hotel that is ranked #18 of 107 hotels in Melaka should offer. It's definitely a shame, for a hotel that sounds promising and with amenities that look posh, fails to achieve basic necessities the guest requires.

Stayed for 2 nights over the weekend in mid Oct 2011 and had 2 premier and 1 family room. Getting to the hotel from the highway was not too difficult - quite easy to find the hotel. The hotel's location works only for those who drive - definitely not if you intend to walk around. It is just 3-5 minutes drive to Melaka Raya where you can find restaurants, shopping centres etc. Parking space in front of the hotel is limited - only 6 lots of which 2 are handicapped lots. However, they have a large dedicated parking space which can hold at least 30 cars opposite the hotel. Just that this is before the hotel and as the road in front of the hotel is a one way street, you will have to drive around after dropping people off at the hotel to be able to get into the parking space mentioned. I found it was safe parking there as they have someone looking after the space.
There is a small food centre to the left of the hotel with a selection of Malay food. Opposite the hotel there is a coffee shop and a restaurant selling Portugese food which opened late. Did not manage to try either but these are options if you want convenience or do not like the breakfast provided. Breakfast is simple fare - bread with jam, butter, peanut butter, sausages, fried rice/noodles, curry, porridge, coffee, tea, cordial. It was good they changed the selection for the 2 days I was there. They seem to have limited cutlery and have to keep washing & bringing out the ones used earlier. Coffee & tea are very diluted.
The 2 Premier rooms were at the highest floor and it was interesting that when the lift doors opened, the gym equipment were right there ie the landing area was the gym. Our rooms were round the corner and it gets noisy if there are people using the treadmill - so, avoid Level 7 rooms. Decor in the room was nice - they have different interesting phone sets in the room but in one of the rooms the phone was not working. These rooms are small - just enough space for 2 queen beds. Nice touch to have LCD TVs with a DVD player. The Family room we had on Level 6 was much better & larger. They could fit in 2 single lazy chairs with a long sofa in the middle and the 2 queen beds were at the side. Much, much more comfortable.
Internet connectivity is wireless only at RM2/hr. You need to pay and get the id + pwd at the reception counter and it cuts you right off when the countdown timer hits the hour. Speed was alright.
Basic toiletries, 4 bottles of water in the fridge & tea packets are provided. I did not like the bathroom cos it is all the same space ie after a shower, the entire floor in the bathroom is wet - no separate area. 1 of the premier room did not have a electronic safe.
In the common area, there is a lounge and cafe but both are not operating - coming soon according to the hotel. Service was alright but they were not able to provide additional room access cards - only 1 per room. Reason given is they were running a full house and ran out of cards - huh? It is incovenient as we had to get the reception to escort us to gain access if one party in the room came back later.
Overall, it is a comfortable place to rest for the evening and good value for money but defnitely not 5-star as advertised. At most, 3 stars. I liked it's close location to Melaka Raya where the shopping, pubs are restaurants are located.

Room Tip: Do not take a room on Level 7 as you can hear the noise from the Gym which is on the lift landing...

Overall Melaka Hotel is quite expensive, with compare with other hotels, the room rate is quite reasonable. Especially it is new and well decorated.
Original i booked 2 room and due to something happen, i have to cancel 1 room on the day before arrival, the staff is willing to assist and there is no cancellation charges, i really appreciate on it.
It located 10mins driving distance from Melaka Jonker Street, it is quite convenience. However there is few disadvantages, no air-cond at corridor, Parking lots too little & breakfast with limited choices.

The room is nicely decorated and the toilet amenities are good. They have a good spread of breakfast . Staff is good too. But the family room is a little small for 4 people.
