“Good food, but really nothing special”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed November 13, 2012

We saw the queues everyday, and went before lunch time to take a table. We waited for maybe 15 minutes and ordered a half chicken to share, with a plate of 5 rice balls each.

The rice balls were lightly fragranced, and kinda mushy. I'm used to Hainanese chicken rice, where the rice is really fragrant and flavoursome, so the rice balls here did not scream out to me.

The chicken was ok... it's good, but not more succulent or more juicy or more tasty than the usual standard in Singapore.

Good for an experience, but really average for food.

“Nothing special”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed November 13, 2012 via mobile

This was our second visit to Chung Wah. The first time we were here was in 2010 where we recalled the food being excellent. This time around we felt it was nothing special.

The shop is located across from San Su Gong (the famous biscuit shop) on Jonker Street. We were there at 11 am and there was a queue outside the shop which was quite long. We stood in queue as well but as the queue moved, we noticed there were actually empty unoccupied tables in the restaurant but the proprietor still made us wait in queue outside just to maintain the impression of a ubiquitous crowd!! How Pointless! Even after we were seated we noticed 3 empty tables inside but the poor crowd outside was still made to queue under the hot hot sun! Mind you this was also the school holiday period and Melaka was jam packed with people.

The chicken was well done and was delicious and we had 5 chicken rice balls each with barley lime for drinks. The chicken rice balls were small in size (like golf balls) and were not very filling. We also had a small serving of chicken innards.

Our meal wasn't that cheap but it was quite reasonable.

Overall, I'd say if you have a craving for chicken rice balls, do queue , table turnover is quite high and you won't be in line for as long as they want you to believe.. But if you're not intrigued by chicken rive balls, give this a miss there are plenty of other delectable food on jonker.

“Average Chicken rice”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed November 2, 2012

The 1st meal i have after i reached Malacca. Not the best chicken rice i ever ate. Just normal for me. The Chicken is acceptable for me and i do not like the rice which is soft and wet. Maybe you taste it better than me who know. :D
