On the desolate stretch (off-season) outside the Lalit Hotel and Spa in Canacona, Goa, you’ll find surprise surprise a gem of a restaurant! It is simply done – natural earthen floors, soft yellow lighting, bamboo chairs, a small tucked-in bar. Yet look a little more carefully and you’ll see the distinctive handmade sea-shell candle-holders, the natural wall décor, a colorful scarve thrown in for color – the handiwork of a passionate expat chef, the founder of Sushi Café.
The menu, simple paper print-out pages, is anything but simple. You have sushi – the usual kinds as well as vegetarian, wood-fired pizzas, a range of fresh salads, hot soups, a large breakfast selection of continental, American and Indian breakfast choices, Indian main course dishes, a variety of exotic teas including chocolate tea and fresh homemade ice-cream!
And that’s not all, every item on Sushi café’s menu is priced reasonably, staff are warm and welcoming, service is quick, and each dish is presented aesthetically and with the right garnishing – oregano and chili flakes for pizza, wasabi and natural soy sauce for sushi.
So if you are in South Goa be sure to try out this awesome place. It takes courage to follow one’s heart, to give up a stable career and start a business. When we support well-run businesses started by passionate entrepreneurs we reward that courage, and in the process we make the world a better place.
