“We loved somy”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 9, 2012

We were a little worried re booking the somy as reviews were extremely mixed. We had absolutely nothing to worry about at all ! It was a fantastic location and our room was fab basic but clean that's all we needed ! The ladies at reception were lovely very friendly and helpful . We booked a superior room overlooking pool with air con , I suggest u pay the extra for these rooms when u book as there were some guests not happy with their room:( but they hadn't booked and paid for the rooms that we had . ( as the saying goes u get what u pay for ) .
The pool area was one of the best we have ever had in goa ! Lovely and clean again .
And we have stayed in the nizmar , Mira and Osborne before .
Defo the best pool at the somy ! The only complaint we could possibly make is that due to selfish people there was a total lack of sun beds . . . . The reason was these people were putting their towels on the sun beds before 7am then most of the holiday we couldn't get one . But they were leaving towels and going on trips etc then coming back after lunchtime to then sunbathe which we though was extremely unfair and should never have been aloud .
Apart from this I honestly would not hesitate in recommending this hotel to anyone just wanting a basic clean accommodation !
Oooops just one other thing to have your room cleaned you just hand your key into reception and ask for them to clean your room , just some people didn't realise this , we just asked for ours every two days as didnt really see any point every single day.
We meet some lovely people and friends who made it a great holiday too : )
Thanks again Tain ( aka. Dave. ) x

Basic (but that is Goa) rooms clean, staff friendly. We rathered the room at this hotel than that at the Ronil beach that we stayed in last March/April in Baga. Lovely fresh bedding. Room cleaned as and when you asked for it. Room boys very friendly. Mainly English tourists stayed at this hotel whilst we were there. Keep your room for a late night flight on your last day for approx £9. No complaints here but we knew not to expect much anyway having visited Goa previously.

Room Tip: Stayed in block I room 3 (I-3), it is away from the main road so a peaceful nights sleep!

we stayed at the sommy resort last november for 2 weeks ,and can say we had a great time ,people all have different ideas about holidays and what they think the place would be like,we arrived in the early morning about 1 am a little stunned and worried at the sight of our room and wondered what we had let ourselfs in for cant repeat my husbands first words ,but come morning everything is looking better the rooms are very basic but they are clean and bug free, the sheets look offputting as do the towels and if like me you take a lovely white beach towel you will soon find out they are not dirty everything gets dicoloured with the reddish dust 12 month later still cant get it white, dont wear expensive shoes for the same reason sandles flipflops old trainers are more practical, next the staff at the sommy are some of the nicest we have come across on our many travels and they really do make you feel welcome they looked after us very well and made our 10 year old great niece really have a fantastic time, the food is also good cant fault it,the trips we went on we amazing,we stayed in a posh tent on a castaway beach lay outside under the stars and listended to the waves very romantic even though we have been married 40 years it was special the tents have carpet toilet shower lights and power sockets well worth going on this trip, also for the brave try the shanti elephant sanctuary you get to ride and wash the elephants they in turn give you one allmighty power shower ,shopping is really good and dont worry about taking all toileteries with you you can get everything in the supermarket shop ,mosquito coils buy from there they are very cheep also would reccomend you buy the local mosquito repelent fraction of the cost and works far better than anything we took, all in all holidays are what you make them and if you are looking for adventure ,relaxation and fantastic weather and amazing people then you will love goa we are going back in four weeks time our age group ranged from 62,56,32,21,30.10 go with a open mind and enjoy yourselfs

As this was our first time to Goa i was actually pretty scared, thinking what had i let myself in for, especially after reading some reviews on here! I need not of worried!! :) The rooms were basic, but they were clean. They got cleaned every other day with clean towels and bedding. Goa is extremely dusty, so its only natutral that the rooms would be dusty after a day of us walking in and out and having the balcony doors open!! I've stayed in far worse accommodation in greece and turkey, and i paid a lot more for it as well! There was always hot water, the fridge was huge and actually worked. The guys there were friendly, especially the guys round the pool :) Yes some of the people who work there sleep in reception, but we have to remember these guys get paid peanuts and for how much it would cost to get back in forth to work i didnt see the harm of them sleeping there, they weren't bothering anyone and reception wasnt a place anyone spent any thime there!! One night i gave the guys the left overs from my Dominos pizza and they were besides themselves, then couldnt do enough for me for the rest of my stay! Theres tones to do if you want that or if you dont you can sit round the pool all day!! The ladys that working in the wee 'beauty' salon are extremely cheap and very friendly. Worth a visit even if its just to get your toes nails painted! In the bar just outside the Somy a guy called Abhi workes there and he can fix you up with pretty much anything and everything! From cheap day trips (dont do the Thomas Cook ones, you can get them far cheaper else wear) to an extra Matress for a bed! Overall we loved it there and have booked to go back in January 2013 for 3 weeks this time! If you like your home comforts or Luxury hotels then Goa/India is definatley not for you! Goa is the best place i have ever been to (I've been a few places, Cuba,Spain,Turkey,Cyprus etc) i would recommend everyone experience it!!
