“great value hotel, great location”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed January 25, 2010

We were at this hotel for most of January and the first thing that comes to your attention is the amazingly impressive entrance and the incredibly friendly staff to greet you. We arrived kind of late and they gave us a room in D Block, it is the old part of the hotel and the rooms really are a bit grubby, it really is more of a three star at a push. Whilst we were in the room they phoned and offered us an upgrade to F Block. You get a lounge with flat screen tv and a bedroom with tv, both rooms have great air con. But still they are a bit faded and could do with renovation. It seems that they have concentrated all of their efforts on the new block right at the front and forgotten about the rest. However, this didn't ruin our time here. It is right at the top of the street leading to Calangute beach and taxi's are so cheap to go anywhere else.
I do agree with one writer's comments that the pool appears permanently cloudy so I didn't use it. Think they need to get their filters checked. It is also amazing that for a hotel that argues it has a business centre that there was no wifi for the whole time we were there, we had chosen it because of the wifi aspect for business whilst abroad so were really annoyed that it didn't exist. The staff in the hotel are really helpful and even though it is a self service breakfast they want to get you everything. There is a small assortment of Indian foods for breakfast and the resident chef is not exactly hard worked , he either stands by the toaster feeding bread or making only an assortment of omelettes.
The Russians now make up the most tourists in Goa therefore if you can put up with their pushy attitude as guests you will be ok. One tip, don't use the taxi pre=paid counter inside Dabolim airport. Use the one directly outside, it is cheaper and you also get air con in the car

neelam the grande is an excellent place to stay..although a little crowded..but it offers a complete value for money..i booked in advance and got in real cheap...The rooms are awsome with all the facilities...very neat and clean and well decorated..They throw in a 32inch LCD in all the rooms..so thats cool for those who want to stay in a lil more than others..always a plus...this place has a couple of inhouse restaurants, but ill advise not to dine over there..they have a sports bar too..u can catch some good games on there.. a nice swimming pool..but its all enclosed..situated close to calangute..its like in the centre of candolim and calangute..service was excellent..
room had almost everything in place when we checked in..they had shampoos, soap, mineral water,towels..everything preplaced.
highly recommended to stay if you dont want to stay opposite the beach..but its close by..

  • Liked — huge rooms and LCD's
  • Disliked — very much closed

Its a decent hotel ,rooms are spick and span .The only difference that will make the hotel stand out is a good guest service as the service staff is Very rude . As we entered the hotel we were shocked to see the staff and the manager at the reception were shouting and fighting with a family , which is not at all acceptable being a hospitality industry.Second when u asked them for a toilet roll on the last day of our stay,we got none,we kept waiting and waiting and even reminded the room service again but it never arrived. We can never recommend anyone to stay there.

We booked a suite over thier & it was a very bad one,The curtains & bedsheet were really in bad condition,I thnk they should change the interior more than taking care of reception.

  • Liked — The outside pool
  • Disliked — The interiors & rooms. They were very small.

Located near Calangute beach, this luxurious hotel offers only the best. It has around 150 well maintained rooms and a huge AC restaurant for foodies. The bar contains exotic drinks. For health conscious, there is a Spa, Ayurvedic centre and Yoga facilities.

The service was of international standards and had a royal touch to it. You can spend your entire day doing nothing and yet not feel tired or bored. The view is terrific and Calangute beach is nearby.

The hotel has a lazy sort of feeling and the waiting time between ordering food and its arrival is somewhat lengthy and could be improved upon.

The rooms are good and the bathroom is at par with international bathrooms. The staff are very cooperative and go out of their way to make you feel at home and comfortable.

All in all, worth staying

Mine and my husband's stay at Neelams was a satisfactory one. I wish to thank TripAdvisor as the reviews here prepared me for the trip and the hotel.

Like I read in one of the reviews here, while checking in, we were told that there is a problem in water supply and that we should get a room in another Neelam's property located at a distance. As we were prepared for this, we refused the offer and insisted to check the room myself. Strangely, the room had no such problem and it was just fine. This is possibly Neelam's gimmick to transfer guests to a property that is less known and thus not booked.

However, after this small issue, I had no problem in my four night Honeymoon stay. Room was clean, cosy and had a great view of the swimming pool. The quality of the daily use products was also decent.

It is quite near to the beach so we could easily walk down during sun set time. The market area is on the way so shopping was also comfortable and fun. Due to the ideal location of the hotel, the attractions of north Goa are nearby, which can be visited by hiring an Activa scooty. For south Goa, I'd recommend a car or a bus ride.

The food at the hotel was also decent and had a great variety (though it lacked fresh fruits or juice). For the north Indians, do not expect the paranthas to be what you are used to. Though, chole bhature were good enough.

Go for this hotel, if you can bag a nice deal from travel websites, like we did from Hotels.com.
