“Good hotel, great location, Friendly staff”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 24, 2013

Family of 7 stayed here for 12 nights mid Feb 2013. I emailed the hotel before we left for a ground floor room overlooking the pool for my disabled parents and was one given as promised. Rooms were large with a double bedroom and lounge area with single bed. A fridge was also included that was restocked daily. Mini bar prices were fantastic, as were laundry prices and bar and restaurant. If your looking for deluxe accomodation this is not the place for you but if your happy with a good size clean room, cleaned daily with great friendly staff then look no further than the Santa Monica. We had a great time and hope to return next year. For a great restaurant close by choose Tulips, great service, fantastic food and run by 2 great guys. Also Sizzling ice, bar and restaurant, ask for Baboo who will serve up the best fillet steak in Calangute and the best brandy coffee's!

We stayed here in Jan 2013 for 3 weeks. Rooms were always clean and towels/bedding was changed every day. Krishna, Bapi and Srikant (cleaners) were excellent and always friendly, would do anything for you. Reception staff were excellent, especially Reev. Bar staff, Antony and Boogie, were also great. Food and drinks were nice, would recommend this hotel to anyone in the future and will definitely be returning next year!

Arrived on 11th November after a long but ok flight from Manchester. Staff were very nice on arrival and carried our bags to our room unfortunately even after contacting the hotel before we arrived asking for a pool view with a sunny balcony we were given a ground floor room that had bars on the windows and overlooked the toilet roll factory. We gave it a go but after the second night it began to feel like we were in a prison cell, we asked to be moved but this took another 2 nights and best part of our hoilday was over. The new room was overlooking the pool and much much better than the prison cell and we did relax and enjoy the rest of the stay.

All rooms are very basic but remember you are in India, food at the hotel was fab and very very cheap. Entertainment left a lot to be desired and one night there was a singer performing for just my husband and I.

Calangute beach is really nice but a lot of beggars ans townsfolk trying to sell you tat, even when you say no they will keep coming back at different times of the day until you get to the point of just ignoring them (not nice but if you show the slightest bit of interest they will just sit looking at you until you hand over a few rupees)

The lady running the stall outside the hotel is a total rip off merchant and once she has your interest she will not let you go until you buy something from her at very very over inflated prices. I'm all for helping the locals but do not appreciate being ripped off, most of the hut workers on the beach will get you what you want at a very fair price.

We have been to some really nice hotels all over the world and had some top notch food but nothing can compare with the food we had in India, we never had a bad meal and could not believe how little it cost. On average for myself and my husband we never spent more than £22 per day, that was our drinks, lunch and evening meal and fags. Its the first time we have come home with a wad full of cash.

The airport is a major pain and badly run but unfortunately you have to do it so try not to get stressed....easy said as it really is the worst I have ever been to.

One big downside that will prevent us from going again is the price of the visa, £42.50 plus postage etc in November 2012, £92.50 plus postage etc in January 2013. I do believe this will put most people off visiting, we were going to go back this month but due to the price increase we are now going to The Gambia.

Not a place for kiddies as we did see lots of young drunk Indians falling about drunk at the beach on the weekend and Indian men appear to be very openly tactile with each other, each to their own but not something I want to witness when relaxing on the beach.

Room Tip: if you are allocated a room opposite reception facing the toilet roll factory do not unpack and as t...

2nd year we have stayed at this hotel and like the previous year we had a great time. The start of the holiday got off to a bad start as we were allocated room 107, the room from hell. On top of the toilet roll factory office and a total view from the balcony of the factory itself. The toilet had a sign saying not to put paper down the toilet and the ceiling fan in the bedroom only revolved at maximum speed. After a few hours sleep we went to reception to request another room and, 5 minutes later, we had been moved to a more acceptable room. Once again our room was cleaned every day and the mini bar stocked daily. One tip is to keep a tally of what you use each day and total it up and pay at the end of your holiday and not weekly as errors can occur in calculations. Last year we had no entertainment for our three weeks but this year we had 4 or 5 live groups. Its a pity that the management do not turn off the big screen tv while the groups are on as folk do not pay attention. Thanks must go to victor, the night security, for his version of gangnam style, it ceretainly was different. The food is also excellent and plentiful but service could have been a bit quicker.
We will be returning to goa next year but will have to consider our accomodation.

Room Tip: First or second floors with pool views are best as lower floors tend to get any noise from poolside...

I love this hotel. I went there in 2009 (wont allow me to go back further than 2012). It is so nice to see that the hotel hasn't changed.

When myself and my friends arrived we wondered what we had let ourselves in for. Very basic, small, building site opposite (which i see is now a hotel) and at the end of a dirt track. Well we had the best holiday ever!!
The staff were so friendly and the manager dealt with a concern we had with a staff member efficiently to put us at ease. We made friends with the boys that worked there and even got invited to a wedding during our stay. We even made friends with 'Rocky' our personal taxi driver. He waited on us hand and foot.
The building site was silent as it was built by hand and not machinery which was magnificent to watch. We had no trouble the whole holiday,.
It was easy to access local amenities, and taxi were cheap. The hotel helped us book excursions. Did overnight stay with the elephants, and loads more. The pictures i have remind me of a truly magical holiday!!

MUST GO HOLIDAY!!
