Was here for 6 days last december - our first trip to Goa. Firstly, the Hotel not easy to locate of the main road but once we found it we had a fast check -in. The rooms are basic but clean and hot/cold water in the bathrooms. the rooms have aircon and a balcony as well which looks out onto the pool. b'fast is basic western and the only downside is that they have a fixed menu. otherwise food is average. the average guest here is from the West in search of some sun and ageing. Hence don't expect too may young couples around! The Hotel is a 10 mts walk to the Calangute beach and 3 minutes to the local bazaar. The staff were friendly and more than helpful to give you local tips, contacts and advice. So called 'entertainment' in the evening is nothing much to write home about....you're better off at teh beach! All in all , a pleasant saty and very good value for money spent.

my friend and I have just returned from 2weeks at the Horizon hotel. Having got over the initial culture shock we soon settled and had a fantastic holiday.The hotel was basically clean but extremely welcoming and all the staff very friendly and helpful.breakfast was a bit limited but as long as you liked eggs you could be accommodated!! The evening meals were fantastic value.. I had the most wonderful chicken biryani one night and all for the sum of 70 rps. Amazing value.
Rooms could do with some better lighting and softer beds but after a few local rums we didn't really take a lot of notice. We would definitely return.

Have just returned from 2 weeks stay at the Horizon and again received 1st class treatment from the staff. Only have one complaint which was room allocated on arrival was not acceptable, had religious pictures in and caged in balcony, complaint to manager was given and we were moved from the room the next day. Otherwise we had another very happy holiday and didn't want to leave. Also sexy evening reception Gally is still there. Gave us older women something to look at for 2 weeks.

After reading all the positive reviews i thought this would be a fantastic hotel, I have to say overal I was a little dissapointed.I will outline the pros and cons and hopefully give a fair and balanced view.

Pros,
Friendly staff.
Great location (in the heart of calungute)
TV that works.
Safety deposit box and 24hour security.
Safe to leave belongings (we left our room for 6 days to travel south india)
Large rooms.
Lots of people return year after year.
Balcony.
Fridge in room and staff don't seem to mind storing own drinks in there.

Cons,
Small,cold pool(virtually unused)
Cleanliness of rooms, towels, sheets are at best average( taking into account the 'we are in India factor') had to ask to change rooms on arrival, second room was better however not great.
Breakfast is average with no Indian dishes on offer (Dosas, idli etc)
Air conditioning is ancient and needs replacing ( too noisy to have on at night)
Water is brown when you turn taps on.
Approach road/alley is unlit.

Overall I was satisfied with this hotel, however I think it should be classed as a 2*, we paid an additional £200 to stay in the horizon as it was 3* and on reflection there are 2* hotels in calungute of equal standards.
