“an escape from India's insanity”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 26, 2010

We stayed for 5 nights at Palm Grove and were pleasantly surprised after so many really bad nights in other hotels across India. The rooms were clean, the linens slightly dingy but obviously washed and the hot water available at whatever hour was a traveller's delight!! The grounds and area were beautiful and well cared for and the friendly Mohan and his staff clearly took pride in it.

It is on the far edge of Benaulim but only a 20 minute walk to the beach.

I was shocked at reading the adverse reports on Palm Grove Cottages in Benaulim. We stayed there during Jan 2008 and were completely enchanted,so much so that we have nominated it as our best ever hotel experience....and we have been traveling for over 25 years.
We found serenity.peace and security admist lovely natural surroundings,we choose the middle priced rooms ....1200r/s...which suited us fine ....a/c,balconey.ensuite....they are cleaned on request....towels and sheets supplied as required-all very efficient.
The owners, whom prefer to stay in the background are very watchful, but approachable for any problems or advice and went out of their way to make our stay memorable.
Cheaper rooms are available nearby but it never crossed our minds to move.....and i spend monet VERY carefully!
The dining areas we loved with Francis and Archie always helpful and informative,we had many delightful meals conversations and laughs with them.
It is situated in a quieter part of Benaulim, about 15 mins from the beaches, there is a general store, laundry and cycle and motor scooter hire places just outside the gates....the popular Malibu restaurant very close by.
In fact we loved the whole set up and felt the crictial comments made by a couple of guests very unfair to a unique and special establishment

Stayed at the Palm Grove cottages for 3 nights in April. Lovely room with balcony and air con - the towels didn't but they were clean. Found Archie the resturant manager really friendly and helpful. The elderly chap on receiption gave us ideas of how to travel to Paloem by local bus.

The gardens were really lovely and the restuarant had good reasonably price food and drinks. Would definitely stay at the Palm Grove Cottages again if we returned to Goa.

I would not say that Palm Grove lives up to the hype in the guide books, but our experience was not as bad as the two revews below this.

Agree that the rooms are overpriced for what they are, but we did find them to be clean and the balcony was nice. The air conditioning was indeed noisy and fairly ineffective.

We found the man on reception to be friendly and helpful, although there wasn't that much effort made to try and understand or rectify a misunderstanding over our room rate. I suspect that this was more to do with not wanting to get the owner involved, who although plesant enough did not seem to be the sort of person you'd want to get on the wrong side of!

The food in the restaurant was great. It's a fairly long but pleasant walk to the beach.

We booked this hotel after it was recommended in the Lonely Planet guide, evidently many other people did too and as such it was very overpriced for the facilities, we paid 1400 rupees a night plus tax (which we had been told would be included). The room was shabby, bedding and towels, although probably clean were very grey in colour. Toilet seat was cracked shower not very good. Had air conditioning which was noisy and not very effective. Small balcony overlooking the road. We couldn't face staying there for two weeks so checked out and found a 2 bedroom appartment with kitchen, living room, balcony etc. for 1500 a night and only 10 minutes from the beach.
Moral of the story don't believe all you read in the guide books!

DO NOT USE THIS HOTEL!!!
When we arrived at palm grove cottages the ill-humoured man at reception told us that there was no reservation for us und thus no room. We had, however, had a lengthy correspondence via e-mail with the owner only a couple of days before. At last he found our name and was willing to show us a room.
This was most depressing: the room was quite small and dark; the bed linen was an indefinable dirty-grey, the bathroom extremely uninviting with towels which were more than appalling.
On top of that we had stated that we would be three persons arriving, hence require a room with three beds. We got the usual “no problem” answer and after a while they carried in the filthiest and most disgusting mattress we had ever seen.
The hotel itself is far too far from the beach to be within walking distance. It does have a nice garden, but that cannot make up for the obvious bad management, unfriendliness and dilapidation.

The people at Palm Grove Cottages were so friendly and helpful. They would do anything to help you. The food we had at the complex was out of this world. You can ask for specific things, such as prawns, the night before and they will have it for you the next day! The prawns were amazing!! The tropical gardens in which you dine are beautiful and very peaceful. We stayed in a cottage that was about £6 a night. There was a fan, seperate bathroom with Western toilet and a double bed. It was quite basic but clean and was just what we needed! The beach is just down the road. This is a great place to go if you want to meet some local people, relax and enjoy the sun!!
