“A tranquil and relaxing gem”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 22, 2011

We came here to unwind after 10 days of hectic charging around and staying in one of the busy resort areas (Baga). The change was wonderful - a converted 300 year-old customs warehouse redone with style - large rooms well appointed with comforts. Excellent bathroom facilities, ceiling fans and air con. There are 10 rooms potentially but only a few were occupied during our stay. The staff were solicitous and sensitive, really concerned to serve their guests with care. The Chef Roshan opened our eyes to some wonderful tastes and food combinations. We could sit by the pool looking over the tributaries of the Mandovi river with 4 different types of kingfisher and several types of egret and heron busily fishing these richly stocked waters. We rode bicycles out around the paddyfields and walked the nearby roads. Perhaps the one adverse comment is the sometimes noisy dogs that barked intermittently in the night. We strongly recommend this restful hotel. Peter & Bridget Friedmann

Ethnic paradise

We went to Casa Britona in October 2009 (not the peak season in Goa). It was in a village and we did not expect this boutique hotel there!! We entered with apprehension but once we entered…the place was breathtaking from the inside!!

The rooms are spacious with very tasteful old Portuguese furniture and décor. The setting is blissful and super romantic. The rooms are set around a small swimming pool which has a gazebo for relaxation.

There two main issues: a) this place is not close to the beach and 2) if you have very young and energetic children then swimming pool right in the middle of the property could be a hazard.

We are going to Goa in December with my sibling and their families and with ah heavy heart we chose not to go to any of the Casa Boutique Hotels (Casa Britona is one of the properties..there are others) as there are 4 kids under the age of 6!

We highly recommend this place, if you are not going with many young kids.

casa britona is oneof the few hotels that can in word be defined as wow !!!. i arrived for a 12 day stay on 21 of dec but ended up staying till 18 th of jan. kind courtesy the ambience and the marvellous decor and an extremlly hospitable host (the owner harself!!!). she took out time to guide me to the best possible places in goa and fine tuned even my "restaurants to be visited itenerary". i am extremelly thankful for the time and effort she took out !!!. keep the good work going shiela dhody !!!.

on the location front the hotel is extremelly well located and central, with north and the action packed nights just 10 minutes drive, panjim is a stone throw away, north beaches are about 1/2 hour drive and south is about 45 minutes drive. the hotel provides good a/c cars with knowledgeable drivers to take you to the best places from shortest cuts.

the decor and the interiors are classisally portugese and it gives a feeling of old world charm, the furniture again is a selected and handpicked old pieces. the colors and scapes of the walls are extremelly interesting and (as i was informed by the owner) done by famous artist PRADEEP NAIR (KUDOS FOR THAT)

OVERALL THE PLACE IS EXCELLENT VALUE FORMONEY AND A MUST TAKE EXPERIENCE WHILE IN GOA !!!
CHEERS !!!

We stayed at Casa Britona between Christmas and New Year (as the people below).
To start with the bottomline: We had a fantastic and memorable stay there
It's a small property, rooms are nicely decorated and by now I think there's wireless (..at least the owner promised ...). View on the river is relaxing, although with the tides sometimes the river can be quite dirty. Also, it's close to a bird-reserve which - for our 2 sons 8&9 - resulted in birdwatching from the terrace.
Chef went out of his way to please us, as did the servants etc etc

But the best was that in the end between a few other guests and ourselves we ended up having a great time together, went to the beaches together and ended up being invited for dinner all together with 10-15 people a few nights in a row. People from India, US, Italy and Netherlands (us): there was a click and a few nights of lots of fun in a row.
So for us it became like a homestay where we encountered new friends.
Probably this was also the result of the time of the year (Xmas) btw.

However, I think that if you are looking for an anonymous stay in a hotel, a 7 room boutique hotel is always a riskier bet then a stay in a 500 room Hilton....but also more unique and certainly more rewarding.
...We'll be back ...

Unfortunately we may have chosen the wrong time of year to stay at this hotel...or was it a home stay..who knows? Its a very confused place...romantic but intrusive, quiet but noisy what with the shouting, charming but contrived...A homestay we feel is a fair representation. My wife and I stayed here for 5 nights (bit long we think) in what we hoped would have been a romantic and quiet backwater getaway given we were travelling the length of India on Honeymoon. We were looking forward to the idyllic surroundings.
The location was pretty, the buildings and accommodation were equally charming and I couldn't find fault with the chef, who constantly surpassed our culinary expectations. The place was designed with the owners expectations in mind, and not necessarily the international traveller...e.g. no tv's in room for those who may just want privacy, towels weren't changed daily etc...
We were here over Christmas, and little did we know that the owner, her two children and a selection of her friends would be staying round too or visiting...
Despite them all being charming and hospitable, we were somewhat uncomfortable and constantly felt like we were intruding on family life e.g. the kids watching TV in the communal space with feet up on the table, swimming in the pool, the owner calling out across the grounds for one of the over-worked 'servants' for her afternoon tea sometimes at the expense of better customer attention/service etc, etc...Casa Britona, for the 5 long days that we spent there gave us the uncomfortable feeling that we were clearly subsidising a lifestyle and not paying for a high quality service which is what we fully expected - we paid for a boutique hotel...we got Family Fortunes...even one of the staff had a good old moan about the way things ran...he was sacked the following day...Despite being included in the 'family life' that was not what we were looking for.

The surroundings are beautiful but that wore off after a few hours...as long as you don't ask where the rubbish is taken in the wee hours of the morning, just sit back and enjoy the view of Kingfishers and Eagles nestling into the bushes...but not for too long. The staff were very attentive, polite and frankly the saving grace of the overall experience along with the Rayon beach shirt that came under the Christmas tree...classy. It didn't spoil our honeymoon though, as the best was yet to come in Kerala...head south!

Casa Britona is a small property, (8 rooms), quite secluded, charming and a better than average ambience. However we were shocked by the treatment meted out by the owner, a lady supposedly owning several resorts. When we had already made up our mind that this was a good place to come again to for a quiet and laid back holiday and relaxation, the owner came to us (We were sitting outside the room and having Vodka ) and said in a very shrill manner "You are not supposed to consume outside --read not served by her--liqour in this hotel. She went on to ask "Have you never stayed in any elegant hotel before?" After 18 years of worldwide travel experience, this was the first crazy experience where someone objected to our consuming personal liqour.
After some time (At 8.35 pm) she threatened to close the kitchen if we did not order dinner immediately. As a result we drove some 10KM for our dinner, (Earlier night we were served food till 10 pm).

We had a comfortable, pleasant and a memorable stay at Casa Britona. Our kid had a blast. We stayed in the luxury cottage which was nicely decorated. No bath tub, though.

Nothing is a NO at this hotel. The staff will do to any length to please the guests. They will play cricket with your child, the chef will make what ever you ask for dinner - its almost like a home away from home.
The hotel and the rooms are maintained properly and a high standard is maintained for cleanliness and overall housekeeping. The pool is awesome.
The location is by the river side with nice sitouts and well done up rooms. We pan to stay with them again. Experience this as it certainly has to be part of the total Goa experience.

Pool: There is no partition in the pool for small kids, but pool itself is lovely

Food: The chef will pretty much make whatever you ask for. Nothing is a NO. Most of what we ate was excellent.

Pricing: Overall, good value for money despite being a little pricey.

Bottom line : This resort is really nice and staff very co-operative and cheerful. We will defintely consider and recommend Casa Britone for any future stay in Goa for a non-beach experience.
