“AWESOME! Viva Nick's!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 29, 2012

This is my new fav. restaurant in HSV!!!! We love the food @ Bridge Street, 801 Franklin, vinotinis is a regular destination, etc. But, Nick's has a wonderful local/neighborhood "feel" to it. Nick and Sherry Mikus are exception owners who act as hosts, whom you are visiting at their home. We enjoyed not only the friendliness of everyone there, the Server's (Crystal, who was EXCEPTIONAL) attention to detail (no glass left empty, offering suggestions, quick pick up of used dishes, etc.) but also the atmosphere, (casual, yet slightly upscale), and then the **food**. We started off with the crab cake app which was WONDERFUL, no remoulade (sp?) needed, a squeeze of the (provided) fresh lemon encased in cheese cloth (nice touch that you don't often see), was all it needed. Cakes were not heavy on the breading like so many others and were HUGE in comparison to most restaurants. Then, we each had the blue cheese Wedge, which could be a meal in itself (your choice of dressing, didn't have to be bleu cheese, with olive garnish). I had the 6 oz filet, cooked to perfection - could have cut it with a butter knife, but was (surprisingly) provided with a steak knife with a side of garlic mashed potatoes. My husb. had the Salmon, which i tasted and found it perfectly seasoned and cooked to perfection! No complaints at all! Nick mentioned that they may be adding more Northern Italian fare to their menu, which looked good on the menu (veal piccata, etc), but their steaks cannot be beat. I was disappointed that they were out of Port wine, which I would have enjoyed as an after dinner drink. However, I was so impressed by the extensive and VERY reasonably priced wine ( a glass that would cost, easily 9.00 elsewhere is 7.00 here and bottle prices are an even better value!!!) . Cigar donations support the U.S. Army! Nick is a U.S. Army Veteran (40 yrs?) and my only regret is not thanking him for serving our country. You should try Nicks, you won't be disappointed. For those who complain and are concerned about cigar smoke, Nick's has an extensive ventilation system and, for those with tobacoo allergies, you can request the back corner table of the (separate) non-smoking section, which Nick assures me is the most smoke-free location in the building. I wish there were a "Nick's West" that is closer to our house...maybe in the future Nick and Sherry??? Looking forward to your special events (bourban tastings, etc) and look forward to being on your mailing list. Thanks for the great ristorante!!!!!!!!!! Ringraziarla per una sera meravigliosa! Buono ciao e la buona salute!

“Good Food!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 27, 2012

We loved the food but did not return because the small setting was overpowered by the smoking section. I am not sure that it could be avoided as that is just one of the features of the restaurant. I would be happy to return if they ever move to a larger local or arrange outdoor dining to give a little breathing room to those preferring not to smoke. Wonderful Caprice salad and Steaks! Nice wine list as well! Excellent service.

“Not Worth $150 for Dinner for Two”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed August 25, 2012

We arrived to heavy cigar smoke which you have to walk through to get to the "Non-Smoking Dining Restaurant." This place is primarily a cigar bar/lounge, and it is beautiful, but the smoke is thick. Parts of the restaurant were "high end" such as white or black napkins, champagne buckets by the tables, and a wine menu. But other things weren't, such as the service: "here are your appetizers, I'll let you guys figure out whose is whose" for our table of 4. The food was all good, but it wasn't up to the gourmet quality you would expect for $25-35 a plate. The iceberg wedge salad was sad- a scoop of tomatoes on one side, a scoop of olives on the other, some blue cheese and bacon scattered on the plate and the plain wedge just sitting in the middle. The dessert menu didn't resemble an Italian Dessert menu. I don't think we would return...

“We Hit The Jackpot with Nick's!!!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 19, 2012

This was our first trip to Huntsville and we let Google suggest a place to eat. Way to go Google!! Dave treated us like family when we came in the door and Francine saw to our every need. The food was excellent, well worth the price. (More than we can say for the over-priced fare from the franchise in the lobby of the Embassy Suites where we had lunch......) We stayed for coffee and dessert, something we rarely do. Can't say enough good things about our experience at Nick's and can hardly wait to try something else from their menu on our next trip through town. Highly recommended!

“I'm so lucky to live close by!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 26, 2012

Wow! We heard about this little place for a while before we finally gave it a try. It’s just so rare to have a truly wonderful dining experience that I don’t ever expect it. Nicks is IT! THE ONE! We have been back many times and it never disappoints. Always rates a 10 in every category. Thanks Nick for finding south Huntsville.
