“Best Geman food in Huntsville, AL.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 12, 2012

This is the best german resturant in Huntsville, AL. Good prices and the best German Deserts. We have bought a whole cake to take home on a few occasions. This is a small cozy resturant.

“Another average German Restaurant”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed July 9, 2012

I lived in Germany for over seventeen years and really enjoyed going out for a really good German dinner. We moved to Huntsville last year we have been looking for a good German restaurant to satisfy our void. We tried Hildegards expecting a really good dinner and left disappointed. Bottom line is that all of our schnitzels were breaded no matter what type we ordered. The breading flaked off and mixed with the sauce which made an un-enjoyable schnitzel. The rolls they served are good, but they aren't German. They are purchased at Sam's Club and heated. Would be great if they had real brochen. Good atmosphere, but small inside. Still looking for a really good schnitzel in the Huntsville area.

Many in our family enjoy German food, especially my husband who loved the German potato salad.

“Authentic German Food”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 18, 2012

If you're looking for some really good German fare, and you want to enjoy a friendly staff, visit Hildegard's. It's named for the owner -- Hildegard -- and on the night I was there she was one of the folks in the back preparing the food.

I'm a big fan of German cuisine, and I ordered the "sampler" platter of sausages, schnitzels, and goulash, and there was a huge helping of sauerkraut underneath it all. I couldn't finish it because the "sampler" platter included full-sized versions of everything. It was excellent.

Huntsville has some strong German heritage, and Hildegard's definitely adds to that. The restaurant itself isn't flashy, and that's okay. The food and atmosphere more than make up for that. Also, be careful not to miss the restaurant when you're looking for it. It's in a nondescript building that houses a few other businesses.

If you do miss it, though, Hildegard's is definitely worth making the U-turn.

“It's Just Down the Street...”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 30, 2011

....So we can walk there for a meal. It's a tiny, family run German restaurant with excellent food, good service, and even a good selection of beers and pastries. It's kind of "hidden" in a little "strip mall", but don't let that bother you... it's worth the search. Hardy portions, so if you're over 50 you might want to think about splitting a meal.
