“Fun casual Mexican restaurant in Homewood. Great food and service!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 6, 2013

Fun casual restaurant with great service. Has huge garage doors that open up so you feel like you are outside. The chips and margaritas are delicious. Menu has some unusual items that are very tasty. Be sure to try the corn. Our group had a fun time!

“Off the beaten path Mexican”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 6, 2013 via mobile

My first visit today at the Little Donkey and I will be back! Unique and absolutly delicious mexican food. I had the Queso Fundido, awesome! Loved the egg, rice, cheese side...a must!

“Good Food Fun Atmosphere”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 1, 2013 via mobile

As a New Mexican visiting Albuquerque I was a little skeptical when my friends told me the were taking me to an amazing Mexican fusion restaurant in Birmingham. Luckily, I was pleasantly surprised. I had the fried chicken and it was amazing. The corn on the cob was the best corn on the cob I had ever had. As for the Mexican food it lived up to my standards. Try the sangria it is great!

“posing as authentic”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed June 26, 2013

I suggest reading more truthful reviews on Urban Spoon. The concept of Little Donkey is great. The environs, very cool. The food, completely awful and devoid of taste. The food is no more authentic Mexican than Taco Bell. I love the space of the restaurant, the food, not so much. Additionally, the waitstaff is very disorganized. So disappointing. I am shocked at all of the rave reviews this place gets, but then again, Birminghamians tend to jump on restaurant bandwagons very easily. If you have a discerning palate, I would suggest dining elsewhere.

“Good food, loud atmosphere”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 26, 2013

We have been here a few times. The food is always very good, and the corn on the cob is not to be missed. The staff is always very attentive, but the restaurant does not take reservations, so you usually have to wait, and the restaurant gets very loud. Lots of tile and the bar is sort of in the dining area. Couple that with some over excited music and you can end up talking pretty loudly with your party so you can carry on a conversation.
Still, the food is excellent, and a solid 4.
