My wife had never been to the ocean before, and for her first time seeing it, I wanted her to see the emerald water near Destin because of how pretty it is.
Lets start with the good.
Price wise for a beachfront room with a king bed, mini fridge, and microwave was great for this area (actually the price for the beachfront room was about the same as roadside hotels down the road with just a bed and a coffee maker). Add in the beneifit of the pool with the swim up bar and waterfalls, and the gift shop and BBQ restaurant in the courtyard area next to the pool made it well worth the price. Even though I'm newly married and don't have kids, it is really nice that they have a huge "water playground" if you will, for the youngsters.
Now for the bad.
Though it is understandable due to the high humidity and previous guests more than likely not following directions placed on the door, there were some cracks in the ceiling of our room. More than likely this is because someone left the balcony door open while running the a/c in the room. Though unsightly, it wasn't a huge deal. Also, the bathroom was really outdated, the calk arouind the bath tub was turning yellow and there was a little mold in some spots. The bathroom really just seemed dirty. For me it was not a huge deal because I don't pay much attention to things in the bathroom other than to brush my teeth and take a shower, however, it was a bit disappointing for my wife, she was expecting the place to be much cleaner.
The BIGGEST issue I ran into was parking spaces. It is nearly impossible to park near your room at all so you have quite the hike to get to your room especially if you have to park in the parking garage and you have a beachfront room.
One other big negative was the fact that employees of the hotel would smoke right by the entrances, and the entrance to the front lobby from the pool area was the number one place they seemed to do it. Since this entrance is semi enclosed you would have to hold your breath to get by.
The rooms were not well lit, there is no overhead light in the room, just two lamps by the beds.
One last negative was the noise level in the hallway, if there is anyone in the hallway talking louder than a whisper or getting ice, you can hear everything.
Other than those few negatives, everything went pretty well.
