“A Cold Winters Trip to Alabama”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed January 5, 2013

My wife and I spent 4 days at the Beachside Resort Hotel, in Gulf Shores, Alabama
beginning December 26th, 2012. Since we were staying "off-season" I guess, the rate was a very reasonable $59.00. Other condos in the area were priced around $159.

When we checked in we were greated by a very friendly Brad Jones, who was helpful in getting us checked in. Since so many people are concerned about the presence of bed bugs, I asked Brad if he would allow us to see the room first. He most graciously allowed and took us up to see the room. I pulled back the covers all the way, and found absolutely no trace of bedbugs.
I had requested a view of the beach, and though a small view, we did have one. The state of Alabama, I guess, was dredging sand from the Hurricane Katrina debackle. But all I had asked for was to be able to see the beach, and I could!

As soon as we checked in Brad informed us of a small problem witht the hot water in the rooms, but come to find that all you had to do was run the water for a couple of minutes and the water was as hot as you would ever want it.

A coffee pot in the room would have been a nice touch. We brought our own but could have saved the trouble and space in the car if one was provided.

The bed was a king size and so very comfortable.

We awoke to get our "FREE BREAKFAST" at the Tequila Bar & Grill, which was right below our room. We were served very good pancakes and biscuits/gravy. (wonderful for Tennessee folks).
The pancakes were so good, according to my wife, that I had them for the next three days. My compliments to Lee, the chef, as they were so very light, fluffy and delicious. If we could suggest the free breakfast to include more than coffee and water. Some juice and milk would be nice. Children and/or older folks may need another choice as caffeine is not good for them. We did like the cooperation between the restaurant and the resort. All in all, the Mexican food was delicious. It was nice to have a restaurant so close to the resort, as the weather was cold and breezy!

We spent 4 nights there. By the time we left, both Brad and Lee were begging us to stay, and we were tempted. The friendly atmosphere they presented was worth more than money can buy.

Brad suggested several activities and entertainment spots. His judgement was good as to what we would enjoy, including riding the ferry, driving to Mobile and visiting the local forts. He knew about several antique shops over in Pensacola, FL. We fell in love with them and found a couple of good purchases.

In summary we would visit again to see the beautiful white sand beaches and enjoy the resort hospitality. We were told of many renovations, including new windows. Our room, 411, had moisture inside the double panes so this really does need attention.

First of all the resturant isn't a part of beachside it's owned and operated by someone totaly different. The breakfest is an inccentive if you will. Any way my stay was wounderful and the veiw from the 3rd floor and up is amazing. Especially right at day break and sun down just beautiful. the salt water pool was clean and clear, the staff was curtious and very helpful. I would definitely recommend this resort for family and friends as well as the general public.

Room Tip: Definitely get if you can a room on the front side and the 3rd floor up to the 5th. "awesome ve...

I have been visiting this hotel and adjacent restaurant (Tequila West-Owner/Manager Ysmael) for two years. The hotel has gradually improved with major renovations for their rooms and property (100 rooms available). The new Hotel manager (Sam) and his staff are all friendly. The location at West Beach is outstanding. I have traveled extensively in the USA and Europe. I am a retired U.S. Military Vet (27 years service) and i highly recommend this hotel.

Room Tip: i like the rooms overlooking the pool with a great view of the Gulf waters..

We love the fact that it is across the street from the public access beach. The compination of price and access bring us back. We do like the fact that the rooms are not carpeted as the beach is harsh on carpet. The staff is not friendly, but not rude either. Food, well the breakfast is a part of your room cost so I guess it is okay that way. We have not come inseason so we do not know if the restaurant is a real one or just an excuse to employ family.

The bed was fine, room was in great shape and we saw none of the issues that some reviewers did about the room. Watch your bill! The front desk staff is not the most careful when tabulating charges and credits.

Pet Friendly.

Okay first of all, the attendant at the front desk was a raving witch if you know what I mean. She told my mother I was being rude when I had a legitimate question when I went to get the paperwork. Trashy hotel, room reeked of smoke, foreigners didn't speak English, awful bedding. The room wasn't clean and the TV/hairdryer didn't work. Staff was so rude and there was no 'continental breakfast'. Awful, just awful. Never going back.

There was nothing wrong with this hotel. It was clean and comfortable. But it could use some updating. We enjoyed late night swims and family karaoke.
