Gulf Shores, Alabama is our favorite vacation destination and Martinique on the Gulf is our favorite place to stay when we visit there. We have been coming to GS for 21 years, staying in a variety of vacation spots. Once we stayed at Martinique, we found our “home away from home.” When our kids were younger we were "Spring Breakers" and now that we are older we are official "Snowbirders." What we look for in a vacation is sun, rest, and relaxation, with a little bit of fun mixed in. Martinique on the Gulf is the perfect answer.
At Martinique, there are beach houses and condos to choose from, all wonderfully furnished. The condos are right next to the beach and feature beautiful views of Gulf sunrises and sunsets. The condos are only 3 stories high in keeping with the topography of the land. No obtrusive and overbearing high towers here. Condos, houses, beach, and marsh land seem to live in harmony. In fact, Martinique was developed with a goal to maintain the look and feel of the land.
There are a variety of beach houses scattered throughout the property. Two, three, four, and five bedroom houses are delicately laid out among ponds, trees, tall grasses, and bushes. Many unit owners have landscaped their properties with magnificent palm trees (something we have very few of back in Dubuque, Iowa). There are two pools (whirlpools and sauna, as well) on the property and one is an indoor/outdoor pool. There is an exercise room that has a view of the sand dunes. The tennis court has pickleball lines painted on it. Most units are well equipped with bikes, beach balls and golf carts. There are plenty of golf courses in the area. The Navy Air Museum is one hour away in Pensacola. Bellingrath Gardens in Mobile is a national tourist attraction. Fairhope is a nearby “town that time forgot.” Gulf Shores has several family water and amusement parks. There are plenty of family “things to do” in the area.
Martinique has an accommodating and well-trained staff that is intent on taking care of all your vacationing needs. If you have a can opener or coffee pot that goes on the fritz you can exchange it at the front office for a new one. If you need help with the grill or thermostat the maintenance staff is only a phone call away.
Did we mention that there is a beach? There is and it’s BIG! If you ever get to Martinique, you'll be talking about this laid back, relaxing vacation for years.
