My family stayed in Kiva Seacrets within the Kiva Dunes Resort property May 26th thru June 2nd. The home was perfect for our extended party of 10. It was 5 bedrooms, all with their own bathroom; 2 masters with kings, one queen, 2-twins, and 2-fulls. All bedrooms had newer TVs and ceiling fans, with private access to a deck, balcony, or patio. The great room (kitchen, living, dining, and screened in furnished porch) was our meeting place, with plenty of comfortable seating. The kitchen had 2 dishwashers, an oversized refrigerator with ice maker, and an additional separate ice making appliance. There was not a single dish, pan, container, appliance, or utensil we wished we had that wasn't there. There is an elevator in this 3 story home which made the kids happy, as well as those of us hauling suitcases and groceries to the 2nd and 3rd floors. There was an additional 1/2 bath between the 3rd and 2nd floor. Furniture was nice and decor was tropically themed; a little cluttered of decorative items for my taste, but nothing tacky.
The placement of Kiva Seacrets could not have been better. On the 3rd floor, you had views of the gulf to the south and directly on the 13th hole of the golf course to the east. Early morning coffee on the screened in porch provided golf course views and maintenance crews grooming the greens, with a few very talented singers out there. :) Straight across the street from the home is the Blue Heron pool. South across the street is the boardwalk to the beach. We opted to rent a golf cart for our stay for additional transportation within the resort area, which was convenient. We made a trip to the clubhouse grill one night to pick up take-out pizzas we ordered, which were very good. Security was top notch and absolutely no one entered the resort or private beach access without passing through security.
The private beach area was very nice. One day, about 25 yards out from us in the ocean were a pod of dolphin swimming by. On a couple other occasions, stingray were strolling through the shallow waters. Neither were interested in us, just strolling along. We saw no jellyfish at all and no other sea or beach creature irritants. The sand was white and soft, water was clear green/blue, and we had Ike's Beach Service setup loungers and umbrellas each day for us, which were very comfortable and an inexpensive luxury to take away the burden of carrying beach chairs/umbrellas to the beach. However, there were many beach chairs/loungers/umbrellas/toys/boogie boards in the garage of Kiva Seacrets for us to use, as well as 5 adult sized bicycles.
The Blue Heron pool was very clean and the 2 times we opted to hang out at the pool rather than the beach, it was visited by both security and maintenance. The resort areas, including the pool and beach, were very private, clean, and quiet. You felt like it was your own personal oasis, a world away from tourism and clusters of people partying, very luxurious and relaxing - a pace I could get used to.
Our week included many rounds of golf at Kiva Dunes Golf Club, a private catamarran cruise with Cetacean Cruises, parasailing with the parasailing company operating off the beach of The Beach Club, we ate at Lulu's and Tacky Jack's, and we shopped at many souvenir shops (our favorite being The Happy Shack - a Hippy Boutique). I am posting further reviews for these experiences.
Overall, I will, without a doubt, return to Kiva Dunes Resort in the future. I met a couple at the pool who have been there 15 times, always staying in a different private rental vacation home, with only one they said they would never return to, and that because the home had carpeting rather than tile throughout. Kiva Dunes Resort is the only way to do Gulf Shores Alabama, in my opinion, and we cannot wait to become frequent visitors there. All staff were very friendly and Kerri, property manager, does a fabulous job communicating and responding to requests and inquiries. We are quick to recognize and appreciate Southern Hospitality, and at Kiva Dunes it is a given. Good times, good memories!
