We really enjoyed our stay in June 2007. We had a 2 bedroom condo. It is clean and well-maintained. The beach was great. Best part is the Plantation is 10 miles out from Gulf Shores, away from the big crowds. The 6 pools are very nice. We highly recommend the Plantation.

My husband, son and I just returned from a stay at Gulf Shores Plantation. We loved it! The grounds are beautifully landscaped and very clean. We rented our condo from the owner and were very pleased. There are 7 pools so the pool was never crowded. The beach was not crowded either. I was disappointed, however, that there was not an on-site restaurant/bar. It is about a 12 mile drive to "town." There are a couple of restaurants that are close by but we didn't try those. This is a very family oriented resort. There is a security booth at the gate.

I traveled to the Plantation for the first time in mid-June with my Grandmother, husband, and 7 year old daughter. I booked directly through the property's website, which was a smooth transaction. One major advantage of visiting the Plantation's website at meyerre.com is that you can look at very detailed photos of every room, which gives you an idea of what to expect. The photos also include snapshots of the balconies, so you can see what type of ocean view you'll be getting, as well. Also, the website lists any local activites going on. My family and I stayed at Plantation East, building # 5 on the 8th floor. I primarily chose this condo because the view was great. I have to admit, Plantation West building does look a lot nicer, and we'll probably stay in that section next year; however, the condo we were in was clean, nicely decorated, and furnished nicely. There was an oven, microwave, fridge, coffee maker, dishwasher, can opener, dishes, cookware, and silverware. There wasn't a washer/dryer in the 2 bedroom/2 bath condo we stayed in, but there was a community laundry area downstairs. The property was beautiful, very clean, and well taken care of. The landscaping was beautiful, and well manicured. There wasn't an ounce of trash, and the pools and grounds were cleaned regularly. We felt very safe there, at all hours. The staff was unbelievably friendly on the phone, and in person. The only small complaints I could have about our condo is that in the hallways the cleaning staff uses some type of cleaner/deoderizer that has a very offensive smell; really, it is terrible. But the halls are very clean. Also, our condo had pretty low water pressure, so the showers weren't all that great. Other than these small things, I can't think of anything to complain about. The grounds of this resort supply tennis courts, shuffleboard, several swimming pools, jacuzzi, and a steam room. The beach is gorgeous, with very white, powdery sand that is so soft and clean. The people staying there were very family oriented and friendly. This resort is about 12.5 miles away from the main highway in town, so restaurants and shopping are several minutes away, but that is one reason I chose this particular place. It has its own private beach that is not overcrowded, and being away from the hustle an bustle of the downtown area is very nice. But, it is still close enough that going out to eat or finding other fun activites is just a short drive. Overall, we had a wonderful experience, and plan on returning next year.

We stayed here for a week in June 2003, before all of the hurricane damage the last couple of years. However, after reading the reviews of recent travelers, it sounds like they have pretty much repaired everything. We stayed in the Plantation East area and enjoyed it very much. There were plenty of pools and other activities to keep everyone happy. The beach is beautiful and the boardwalks give easy access. There is also golf and tennis available on site.

We booked through the Coldwell Banker realtor in Gulf Shores and did have a slight problem with them, but they eventually straightened it out for us. We had booked one condo at a certain rate. After booking, that one became unavailable, so they moved us to another, more expensive unit and charged more to our credit card without contacting us. After I called them about it, they agreed (after some agruing) to charge us the lower rate.

The only drawback I could see with this place is it's location. It is off the beaten path a bit, but we didn't mind at all. I was nice and fairly quiet. Also, it was much less crowded than the condos that are so close together in town.

We would certainly stay here again.

This was our first trip to the Plantation and I certainly hope it won't be our last. On this trip was myself (39), my son (13), my niece (13) and my mother (59).
We stayed for 4 days/3 nights in the Plantation East (room 1204). We had an excellent view of both the beach and the pools. It appeared that the rooms were full (judging by the number of cars) but there was plenty for people to do. Even though the Plantation has 6 pools, we only swam in the one nearest to us and the inside pool and hot tub.
The condo was furnished really nice and had the tropical theme which instantly put us in the mood. As far as the kitchen, you needed absolutely nothing except food-they provided pots, pans, silverware, blenders, coffeemaker, microwave, cups, plates, etc.
Our condo had 2 bedrooms and 2 baths. Queen size beds in each room along with a foldout queen size sofa bed.
You can play tennis, shuffleboard, rent movies, putting green (all included in our price). They also have activities for kids based on age. One night there was a karoke/DJ for the 13-15 year olds with all the pizza you could eat for $5.00. Nice way for kids to meet others and make friends.
The weather was perfect-wear plenty of sunscreen tho. You can rent loungers and umbrellas out on the beach for $25/day but we just carried our own and made a spot out on the beach.
Be sure to bring a sand bucket, a net and a flashlight and go crab hunting at night. It was lots of fun!
The Plantation is about 13-15 miles out from restaurants and shopping centers but that wasn't a problem for us.
I would highly recommend this hotel to anyone, especially who have families.

We had a fabulous time at the Plantation. Rented our condo via CyberRentals and got a great last minute deal. Beach is not crowded, is free of garbage and very family friendly. The condo was clean, spacious and comfortable. Our family of five enjoyed seeing fireworks from our balcony. Our kids met lots of friends in the water and enjoyed playing with them. My husband and I enjoyed the value of this place. Quiet, away from the noise, and extremely enjoyable. Very safe and secure. Wish we could have stayed longer. We will be coming back.
