The Butcher's Block is only six blocks or so from my house, but it took a friend's recommendation for me to actually go there. What an interesting place! There's a good selection of wine and beer as well as an assortment of fine cheese, sausage, meats, seafood and condiments. They specialize in aged certified angus beef and have such unusual selections as rack of lamb, duck, smoked tuna dip, and soucy grade tuna. Their lunch menu has about 15 sandwiches and several soups, all made fresh and all delicious. I especially enjoy their Lobster Bisque followed by their French Dip, with roast beef piled high on your choice of bread and tasty au jus. If you request, you can add horse-radish cream sauce, so good!
They host wine and beer tastings several times a month and I can assure that you will be offered something new and different. It was at such a time that I was introduced to Mancego cheese, and I now consider it to be one of life's wonderful treats. They will also cook, at different times, Boston Butt, Ribs, Crawfish Stew, Smoked Salmon or other delicacies that can be had either at lunch, or purchased and taken home. If you sign up for their e-mail list, they will send you announcements of their special events so you can put it on your calendar.
Having Butcher's Block in Dothan is a really nice thing, but having them in the neighborhood is wonderful. I regularly purchase Mancego Cheese and Smoked Tuna Dip weekly for my evening appetizer and snacks, and always know where I will go if I need to pick something up for lunch. Highly recommended.
