My wife and I had traveled to Dothan to take advantage of Alabama Tax Free Days and were looking for a comfortable place to stay (near the shopping) after shopping all day. The Dothan Country Inn and Suites is next to a Cracker Barrel. You can access the hotel via the adjacent Home Depot parking lot. There is a Publix grocery on the other side of the Home Depot where you can get drinks and snacks (including prepackaged sushi). The hotel is located a couple of blocks south of the Wiregrass Commons Mall which has a Dillards, Belk, JC Penny, and Burlington Coat Factory. The indoor pool and hot tub are very nice, but we were disappointed that the hot tub was out of service. The fitness center is adjacent to the pool and has a couple of machines, but no food or drink is allowed. Be aware that you have to go up steps if you use the back entrance. If you are loading any amount of luggage the front door is your best option. The back door is not wheelchair or luggage trolley friendly. ALL of the staff were friendly, polite, and helpful. We stayed in a standard King room in the back on the first floor. HBO can be found on channel 999 instead of 302 as indicated in the guest guide. The air conditioning worked very well, which is very important in Dothan during August. You can surf channels quicker than average on the newer digital TV’s in the rooms. The wireless internet signal was a little weak in our room and Internet Explorer had problems going the site that allows you to connect to the hotel network, but Mozilla Firefox worked fine. There are plenty of electrical outlets on the desk for charging all of your devices. There was plenty of hot water for showers, a grab bar in the tub, a fairly non slip surface in the tub, a high height elongated toilet, and plenty of space by the sink with a huge mirror above. The bed was very comfortable with 4 pillows and an extra pillow available in the closet above the iron. The comforter and sheets were just wonderful. The refrigerator and microwave are hidden inside the furniture below the TV. The lounge chair includes a footstool to rest your legs. The breakfast bar included pastries, bagels, cold and hot cereals, instant grits, yogurt and fruit cups, a waffle machine, egg patties and potatoes, string cheese, oranges and apples, and better than average orange juice. We were especially impressed with the REAL china, silverware, and glasses for your juice as well as the sugar free syrup with sucralose for your waffles located above the waffle mix machine. USA Today’s, Newsweek magazines, and books to borrow are available in the lobby. The Gideon’s have also visited the hotel. The business center consists of a PC and a printer. There are vending machines with a typical assortment of sodas and snacks. If you are not familiar with the Dothan area, you can get a copy of the Official Dothan Welcome Guide and Dothan Magazine in the business center. Since the hotel is smoke free, there are benches in front of and in back of the hotel if you must smoke. The Guest laundry is on the second floor and consists of 1 washer, 1 dryer, a laundry products dispenser, and 1 chair.
