Deviled crab was obviously frozen and not prepared at the restaurant. Fish was mediocre. We had a wonderful young waitress. Hopefully our experience was not typical. Drive a few miles north and try Pelican Reef.

Barnacle Bill's is only one of 5 restaurants on Dauphne Island. Typical beach setting inside. Nothing fancy. Lighting too dark for my tastes. Staff was very friendly. Do not order the crab cakes. I do not think there was any crab meat in the three I received. Other person in party had fried shrimp. That was very good.
My group went to Barnacle Bills for dinner last night. By happenstance some of the white members of the group went to the bar while we waited for a table. The manager was telling racist jokes.
Then, after we were seated, the black members of our party were refused the food they ordered. We were told "we are out of batter to fry food...we are out of brocolli...we are out of potato skins...etc." All the while, white parties around us were being served those items.
After 2 hours of waiting, we finally had to leave without eating.
I went to Bill's for the 1st time on Aug. 10 while visiting with my grandparents, who live on the island. I realized how personable a place this was when the manager greeted my grandparents by name & joked with them about catching their food in the aquarium. The service was a little slow at first b/c the dining room was busy, but when our waitress got to us, we had great service from start to finish. It was the best gumbo I've ever had, my fried shrimp were very TASTY & our waitress was the funniest one around! My fiance & I went back the following weekend & ate at the bar with our favorite waitress/bartender. We plan on doing it again this Saturday.
Food was great. My daughter had steak, I had grouper, and my other daughter has crab claws. The seafood was spicy, but had a great flavor. The service was so bad that we will not be back no matter how good the food was. It seemed pricey considering the seafood was local - $80 for three and no alchol was served. We found another local place to eat the night before that was less expensive, the food was just as good, the service was so nice along with a great atmosphere that was much better. At some point good food doesn't make up for poor service. Two couple walked out within five minutes of each other because they got tired of waiting.
