My husband and I had just come from Fort Morgan to this fort. We enjoyed the ferry ride and looked forward to another fort experience. This fort is much better maintained than Fort Morgan and has interesting archives such as an all wooden waterpipe, Civil War clothing and minie balls, etc. The views are wonderful and any kid would enjoy romping around though you have to be careful with steep steps and high climbs. The best thing we saw however was the blacksmith who makes things before your eyes using a pre-Civil War forge. We spent close to an hour watching him work and asking questions which he was very happy to answer. His handmade items are for sale and we did buy a few items which were reasonably priced. Before going, check and make sure the blacksmith is there because he's not there every day. We thoroughly enjoyed our experience here and recommend it for a sunny day.
