“Peaceful location”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed December 30, 2012 via mobile

After a 30-minute drive from downtown (and no indication which way to take) you get in a peaceful location. Mixed art pieces separated in two big halls. Liked the Miro drawings and the exhibition on Brazil - Holland history.

“A good day out”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 2, 2012

I agree, well worth the visit. BUT my only criticism is that it's almost inaccessible by public transport, You can get close though, on a bus to Varzea, then 20 mins walk

“Well worth the trip”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 16, 2012

Take a half hour taxi from Boa Viagem and enjoy some history and art. Opens at 1pm and closes at 5pm. Taxi should be around $50R round trip but make sure the taxi will wait or return as taxis are scarce. $15 R to enter. Beautiful old maps of Recife from the 1600's. Also paintings and drawings of other cities as well from that period. Rio without any buildings looked awesome! Another castle on the grounds has weapons and armour...lots of it. Loved the dog armour suit!

“You don´t need to go to Europe to see medieval armours.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 20, 2012

The place has two castles. Of course, they are not old, but they are perfect for those who live in America, and not in Europe and can´t go there. I think they have one of the best medieval armours collection I`ve ever seen in my life out of Europe. They got arts exhibition too. And, there is a Café inside wich serves the "Bolo de Rolo", or roll cake, wich is a special cake, like a swiss roll, filled with guava jelly, cut in very thin slice. Delicious food to taste, after the cultural and historical visit, of course. First the learning, after the stomach...
