“EXTREMELY TERRIBLE PLZ DONT STAY HERE”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed May 25, 2012

the beds are tooo small..............bad A/C full of msoquitoes...........bad smelling rooms............very unhygenic wash rooms............very bad food.................. unmannerly staff.........the staff never comes to room even for checking..........no staff to carry luggage.........give fake food bills................on the name of complimentary breakfast they provide one tea and two 50-50 biscuts.

Room Tip: All the rooms are equally bad not worth the money.

During my recent visit to Kolkata, I stayed with Hotel Gardenia. The experience was truly horrible. The room was OK as such except for mosquitos. The washroom did,nt have hot running water even in winter month. Room service was the worst. the first ever hotel i have seen, where tea is not served at dinner time.

Room Tip: Dont even try this Hotel.

i was there in kolkata on a business trip for a convention and i needed a hotel in the vicinity to my convention center and i managed to find this hotel which is located on sarat bose road nxt to the lakshmi narayan temple. the hotel is a 3 floor hotel .the rooms are quite small as compared to the other hotels and the hotel is not that clean and tidy .the hotel has a computer in the lobby which is very small and the internet usage out there is free.the staff at the hotel is quite slow. the staff at the hotel are quite lazy and there is constant noise at the hotel rooms as it is located on the main road .the hotel has a lift which is good .
on the opposite side of the hotel there is a very nice food joint which is probably the only one in kolkata to be open till 2 am in the morning and it serves nice punjabi and chinese food, they send it to the hotel room also which the hotel does not mind so it is good .
i would probably look out for better options to stay for as there are other hotels in walking distance.

I strongly believe that a comfortable hotel room needs to have a neat, clean and hygienic bathroom. Any hotel which does not have a good bathroom does not meet the required quality and appreciation even if it has all the other facilities.

At Hotel Gardenia, the photos on the website will definitely cheat you. A very average hotel and pathetically maintained bathrooms. The staff at the reception counter would talk as if they are giving you a free service. Do not expect any thing else other than a night stay and a OK sort of breakfast. Room service is better than the service that you can hear from the reception.

I think this hotel thinks that having an AC room (which is a must in Kolkata for travellers) / TV (which is also a must) / a mini-fridge (which is helpful) / running hot water (which is a bare necessity) / room service (which is required in any hotel) ... is enough to call this a luxury hotel.

The location is very far from the airport ...
Infected with cockroaches.
To pay Rs.1500/- + on a hotel like this is a just a sheer waste of money. Just opposite this hotel is another hotel, which is far more superior .. a bit more expensive, but it's worth it, because of the cleanliness!!!!

It had a gaping hole in the sink of the bathroom, with cockroaches coming through it ...
the sink was not in place .. and when you held on to it, was coming off!!

The hotel has a very quiet atmosphere, located in the city's central area, the hotel offers good connectivity to all places of interest. the staff was also courteous.
Most importantly, rates are slightly on the lesser side, compared to other hotels providing similar services. Rooms are not big enough, but fine enough if you just want to drop in at the hotel at the end of a tiring day at shopping.
A good place to stay in Kolkata.

We were 3 guests in an Executive AC room. I have prebooked the room. So nothing had to be paid at the hotel.
The hotel rooms were spacious and had 2 beds, which were suffcient for all the guests. The service of the staffs was also fast and they were courteous.

In the booking, continental breakfast was included, however they offered indian breakfast, which was very nice.

The good thing about the hotel is also the location. It is near(2km) to US embassy/US consulate on Ho chi min sarini, where we wanted to go. Infront of the hotel, there is a nice restaurant to have good indian food.

  • Liked — The location is excellent, with the best of Kolkatta is nearby
