Moving on the banks of river Hooghly, we reached Fort William; the reminiscent of British Legacy in the city of Kolkata.
Named after King William III of England it was established in the year 1696. As we moved across the rooms of the old yet highly elegant fort, we came across the guardroom of the two storied building where the black hole tragedy occurred.
The fort that is at present on the river bank was constructed in 1780 and the adjacent area cleared around the fort became the famous maidan (field) of Kolkata. We found military horses moving around it. Premises of the fort is cleaned and beautified by government authorities setting up a nice looking garden.
Overall; the feeling of visiting Fort William was going down the memory lanes of history.
