“Great respite from the streets of Calcutta”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 14, 2012

My boyfriend booked a room at this hotel for a weekend stay, and our experience was just lovely. After several months of volunteering with an NGO and simple living in India, the weekend was exactly what I needed and more. The room was clean and the temperature just right -- two things that are rarely encountered in India outside of the world of luxury hotels! The bathtub and rain shower were pleasant surprises, as was the complimentary fruit bowl (replenished every morning by the cleaning staff). The buffet breakfast was delicious, and the service at the front desk was more than helpful. A perfect respite from the heat, humidity and crowded streets of Calcutta. The only con is that the hotel did look a bit worn in places -- the carpets smelled a bit mildewed at times -- but nothing that would keep me from returning. If you're looking for a place to relax after a long day of business or sightseeing, or are looking for a nice getaway from the Indian experience, this is it!

This hotel wont let you down on any front for sure.
Right from check in till you check out the service is exceptional.
Rooms are quite spacious, neat and clean and lives up to the standard you expect from the brand "Hyatt".
Breakfast is one of the best you can expect at and dont miss out on misti dohi...
There Concierge service is very good and ready to help you out with all the info you need.
My next visit to kolkotta wud definately see me staying at this hotel for sure.
Highly recommended.

As mentioned by my colleagues, the Hyatt Regency Kolkata is a good place to stay while in the city.

The rooms are big enough, the rain shower is a great experience, the beds are comfortable. On the minus point I would mention that the bathroom may need an upgrade, tiles will soon be falling off.

The breakfast is OK, a little bit more variety would be welcomed. The fruit selection is not as diverse as I expected.

The restaurants (we dined at the cafe and at the Indian restaurants) have reasonable prices and the food has a good quality.

The staff is extremely friendly, I appreciated their try to assist in any situation.

All in all a good stay, but not the best I had.

The standards at this hotel are as high as any I have experienced anywhere in the world. From the moment the staff greet you by name at the door to the standard of food at the restaurant everything is first class. Everyone is falling over themselves to be helpful to you and the rooms are an oasis of luxury away from the noise and dust of the city. As a previous reviewer mentioned booking the transfer service from the hotel is to be recommended, I took a taxi first time and it was a pretty hairy journey in a beaten up old Morris Oxford, fine if you like that kind of romance but the air conditioned hotel taxi is much more relaxing.

We only spent an 8 hour stopover at the Hyatt. It is a 20-30 min drive from the airport and a 10 min walk to a large mall. We would definitely recommend booking the hotel’s transfer service when arriving because the airport is overwhelmingly crowded and chaotic. Local taxi would be fine from the hotel upon departure to save some $; the hotel transfers cost $25.00 each way. The exterior of the hotel is impressive and security is thorough. The lobby is beautiful and open. The pool area is very large and nicely landscaped; an oasis from the rest of the city.

The hallways and room were disappointing; no different than any other Hyatt in North America. Not very large and not much storage space. The bathroom was a decent size but the single sink was water stained and the bathtub/shower stall set-up was odd. It almost seemed like a shower that you would see in a hospital rehab center. The bathtub cleanliness was questionable and definitely not soak worthy. The room had a strong mildew odor so I lit a scented candle even though it was 9:30 p.m. and we were leaving at 4:00 a.m. There was a lot of water damage on the wall behind the bed with a large area of bubbling paint.

Overall, for a newer hotel it seemed like the rooms were already quite worn. I would recommend staying somewhere else even for a short stay. We passed a few nice looking hotels on our drive from the airport.

Room Tip: Ask for a room with a view of the pool since the city view is quite ugly.

Dear Valued Guest

Greetings from Hyatt Regency Kolkata!

At the outset let me take this opportunity to thank you for taking time out in writing such a feedback.

Guest feedback is the most important tool for us to see how we measured up to our clients’ expectations. It is through comments like yours that we can improve our services.

While we always strive to deliver a perfect experience, I do apologise that you were not happy with your room during your stay.

Allow me to thank you for your remarks made on the interiors and the bathroom. However there's is very little I can do about the interiors, I can assure you that I have already conveyed your remarks to our Planning and Development department to be considered during our forthcoming projects.

Regarding your comment on the mildew odor coming from your room and the seepage behind the bed area is being already addressed with our Housekeeping team and Engineering team for their immediate attention. I can further assure you though the property is almost ten years old our team always try to do their best at the regular maintenance and periodic refurbishment so that our guests always get the fresh feel.

Please make yourself known on your next arrival at the hotel as it would be great pleasure to meet you in person

With my best regards

The hotel is just about 30 minutes from the airport, and about 40 minutes from the centre (in the rush hour). The benefit of staying in this location is that it is peaceful, less polluted, and has space with great gardens. These things not possible staying in the centre.
The building is a great design. The gym (free to guetss) is 1st class and professional quality, worth staying here just for the gym.
The room was on the 4th floor overlooking the pool at the rear. It was well designed and comfortable.
I paid for an upgrade to get access to the Executive lounge, internet and breakfast. Very nice lounge ( and use of conference room if needed).
So far so good.
The only thing that made this less that top quality 5 star was the service. The little things count when you are paying top rates. Some staff were really good and helpful. One or two were not up to the standard set by the others (like being more interested in their mobile phone than dealing with customers).
It is a good hotel and its worth staying there, but the management need to pay more attention to the little things.

My wife and I stayed for one night - hopover before a vacation in Sikkim.
Location is great for travel to the airport and also to say Park street for some local delicacies. Room and bathroom were both nice and the bed was comfortable. Breakfast was delicious with some interesting choices.
Service however was terrible all through the hotel. Just 3 examples at the reception/lobby manager: a) we were given a room opposite what looked like a service/storage room. In the first few minutes we entered our room, we could hear everything which was being said plus all other noises from the room across. We mentioned this to the reception and were told specifically that the same would be taken care. We went out for dinner and when we return - voila what do we find - still being disturbed by the noise across. b) we were helpfully asked by the reception if I would like to enroll for the rewards program. On saying yes, we signed off some form and were told that the temporary card would be slid across the door into the room in a short while - same never happened. c) I had stayed in Hyatt Mumbai last August and my European address then was maintained in their database. I gave my new Indian address at the time of check-in and asked them to change the same - while checking out next day same was still not updated.
Was not a great start to our vacation, which otherwise turned out to be nice
