“Good Medium Budget Hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 16, 2012

I stayed in this hotel for 4 nights from 4th September, 2012. Rooms are clean, Service is Satisfactory. Food is average and OK. AC position should change. Location is good. If not looking for a luxury hotel I would recommend this for a business and medium budget choice.

I stayed here with colleagues last month on a business trip. They have 40-50 rooms and are generally clean. The food can be avoided but the USP of the place is its location. Its right in the heart of the city. The market is 2 minutes walk and so are all the good food joints. The theatre and metro stations are all at 10 minutes walk. Its very close to the Indian museum. The staff is okay. The owner stays in the same property and take personal care of the guests. If any problems, he is very much approachable and is eager to help.
Overall, i would rate it as a nice place to stay(with family too).
Rates are reasonable keeping the "above-said" in mind.

Room Tip: The suits are good, they have balconies too. The hotel is good if you are to see the city. Its not...

Hotel lytton is a nice hotel with a good value for money and well located. It has many amenities like free wi-fi connection , lcd tv, etc. It is just beside the Indian Musuem, Kolkata and the main gate of the museum is on a walk of 2 mins from the hotel. The rooms need a bit of renovation but its f9 as a place.

Good value for money and well located. Rooms could do with definite renovations and refurbishments. Were in this lovely city for 2 nights and it is indeed a splendid city. This hotel is close to tourist attractions,

I stayed in this hotel for one night during my business trip to Calcutta. Location of the hotel is very good. Local people had informed that this is one of the oldest hotel in the city. Rooms were spacious & bathroom were cleaned with all basic amenities although AC was not working properly & it looked very old. Room service is average & needs improvement. Food was excellent & reasonable priced. Overall this hotel is good for only very short stay since there are better options available

I stayed in this hotel for one night , It was good stay , rooms are big ,neat and clean , This building is old but well maintained , its look like bunglow converted in to hotel .

Service is not good , staff are old and with casual approach , reception took 15minuts to complete my check put process after payment .

This hotel is good for short journey in decent amount

2 of 5 stars Reviewed May 29, 2012 via mobile

I had childhood memories of first visit to Calcutta here so i went. But what a dissapointment it was.

The rooms, furnishing, fittings are not worth the hefty rate they charge and they have the worst staff from top to toe. Rooms are small, smelly and clusterphobic but does have a window with a view of the sorry state of the street below. The bathroom was dirty too with old fittings. And better not mention the bed which was a piece of log and the grand old ac that barely worked.

One evening we went to the wrong floor and as the lift opened a huge dog came charging, fortunately at the last moment someone came running and held it back. However breakfast at the restaurent behind reception was filling and tasty.

This is a place where nobody comes back nor recommend, but because of organised tour transit groups and first time unaware tourist, still gets good business.

And don't leave any of your stuff outside or bags unlocked, chances are somethig would go missing.

The staff are not for any service but either after tip or rip you off with one way or the other.

So don't ruine your lovely holiday in this to be experienced part of India by even thinking of staying at Lytton.

For transit stay somewhere near the airport which has better accomodation options at half the price.

This part of Calcutta is not a nice place to stay anymore. Salt Lake, bypass side is cleaner, safer and economical too.

I won't have written the review if not to warn others.
